all cars will slowly go off to the left when let go of, as if the driver was to fall asleep they would go towards the curb and not the cars on the other side of the road, in england that is.
 
'City' button is far less effective than the older mk2 punto but more effective (noticable) than the stilo city function.

As for steering I like flinging the GP into bends & around roundabouts,recently on the M8 late at night (empty road) I was trying a quick 'no hands' (hands 1/2" away from wheel...safety first!) for a split second and the car kept its line no problem.Might just take some getting used to?

Agreed.

GP City button off - lighter than equvialent setting in a Mk 2.

City button on - bit heavier than the equiv setting in a Mk2.

No probs here with the weight of the steering in either mode - jsut right IMHO.

I think is not just the steering effort, there is more going on. You guys will not recall the Rover SD1, that had very light power steering,(I mean one finger light at walking speed) but it had good aerodynamics and geometry and linear feedback so although when you drove away at first you thought "what is happening to the wheels?", when you got into another car after a week or so you realised you had completly got used to it and could place the car fine and had 100% confidence in at speed.
 
I wouldnt go any wider than the existing tyres, wider tyres make the steering lighter
Sorry, disagree with that bit, wider tyres make steering heavier not lighter. Ever tried parking a car with very wide wheels? Over inflated tyres will make steering lighter though so, as others have said, check that.
I guess lightness of steering is somewhat subjective and depends, to an extent, on what you're used to. My GP may be considered fairly light steering by some but then you could also argue that the brakes are too light since i tended to end up with my head through the windscreen if I drove it straight after my Ducato!

I don't know where jamesgamby1989 gets the idea that all cars pull to the left. Sorry mate but they'll only do that because of the camber of the road, nothing to do with the steering geometry, try it on a flat surface if you can find one.

My old man had 2 of the damn things! The second kept stopping in rain a lot as it was an SE, so was the usual scenario of British Leyland Electrics + Water = Problems!!!
 
Not many roads are dead flat, but all cars should steer straight on a flat road if their wheels are properly aligned. Mine does :)

As for the light steering, could the power steering fluid have anything to do with it?
 
I have GP Sport 130cv, and have the same problem!

My GP have the steer very very light!, if you turn fast in motorway, the car will be unstable and very very dangerous!

I thinks this problem is caused from bad steering rack... when I am on the road, the front right wheel sounds "boum boum" on irregular roads... into fiat garaje replaced my steering rack, but after 2.000kms have the same noise!

Now, my steering is very very light... its dangerous to drive this car!

Next week, my car goes to oficial garaje and a fiat inspector will see the car, have too much problems... and they don't solved it!

I have driven alot of cars at high speed, including Grande, and I can honestly say I love the quick reactions of the Grande, throwing it into corners at high speed is very satisfying, the steering is light but if used smoothly gives good feedback. The weight transfer is an issue, but the car responds to smooth driving beautifully.
