you would of thought so! but this was after it had been in and been resealed by COLLIERS!
Although after talkin to a gentlman from Fast Fit (the ppl that sealed my window bk in at FIAT) he said it didnt look like they had done anything to my window at all as it still had what he called "SEALANT OVERSPILL" from the factory which wouldnt be there if COLLIERS had removed it and re sealed it!

So i dont think they have actually done anywork on it at all other than mess me around 7 times and seal my brake light into it!

Re: Help! My car is leaking!

I wouldnt attempt to try & reseal this myself so would get it done by contract or through the bodyshop department, which I might add has been successful on the water leaks I have personally seen so far.

Is it coming in at tailgate seal or under headcloth?

Re: Help! My car is leaking!

So is it supposed to do that?

Mine has done it from day one. Presume in time there will be corrosion problems inside the bootlid?

Re: Help! My car is leaking!

I'm wondering something..Seems like most people here (with lots of problems) are from UK...
Where are GP's bought in UK made? Is there a Fiat production line in the UK or are they coming from Italy or somewhere else?
I'm from Belgium, got to go to my dealer next week (NFS pedals/kickplates) and will ask where GP's sold in Belgium are made..Don't have any big problems with mine (brakes are squeeling little bit sometimes and 1/100 times I can't open the passengers window from drivers side, thats all for now) and don't know anyone here who has...

Re: Help! My car is leaking!

Maybe the steering rack problems and certain dash faults could be uk only models as they are right hand drive, and this could cause some problems in manufacture.

As for the water leaks maybe uk is seeing more of this as we have had extreme rain in the last couple of months, but a new car should be water tight i think that would be taken for granted by customer.

My car rattles shakes and steering rack knocks but at least its watertight

Fiat branded cars are constructed all around the world; in Italy, Poland, Brazil and Argentina. Joint Venture productions in France, Turkey, Egypt (with the state owned Nasr car company), South Africa, India and China.

Re: Help! My car is leaking!

Hello again!

The Grande went into the dealership today for the footwell swimming pool and perceived lack of performance / economy to be investigated.

1. Performance / Economy - apparently the car is how it's supposed to be, "the machines" say it's fine and the mechanic who drove it says it's spot on and how it should be. Unfortunately they gave us a 16v as a courtesy car so now it feels even slower

They reckon that we think it's slow / lacks punch is because it's heavier than the old 1.2 16v it replaces, a valid point perhaps, I'm putting it down to the 8v vs 16v thing, the engines just seeem so much more responsive, perky and willing, the 8v seems sleepy. Perhaps a change to a 16v if they can come up with a good deal...

On economy I'm still puzzled, it's averaging 37mpg on what I guess they would call "combined" driving, at the moment it's on it's way down south on a 200 mile trip so we'll see what it has to say then.

2. Swimming pool - I had a good look over the car following my last posting and suggestions made with no joy, finally got the car dried out and it seemed OK again despite a few heavy downpours.

It went in to Fiat, they have asked for it to go back in for a week on the 30th so they can strip it down. I'm a little scared by this as you can break a lot of little plastic tabs and create rattles in a week but I'll give them a chance A little annoyed that we booked it so far in advance and now have to do the same again, especially as upon collection the footwell is full of water again.... almost as if they have been jet washing it to try and make it leak but then been unable to find the source.

I'm sure all this water won't be good for the car interior in the long-run

On the plus side they are replacing the window switch unit to fix the sporadic failure that keeps popping up so that's one down!

No water in the tailgate as far as I know, I feel lucky in a way

So that's where I am, still leaking but possibly wanting to swap the car for another Grande with more poke... they must put something in the interior glue to make me hooked on them!

All Grande Punto's come out of the Melfi plant in southern Italy.....and it's a BIG factory......making 5000 a week at the moment.....they hope to up it to 10,000 units a week like the old Punto.

Re: Help! My car is leaking!

Shouldnt use jet wash to find leaks, pressure from jet wash will force water pass just about any seal.Garage should be using hose/sprinkler set up.

I agree, you *shouldn't* but I wouldn't put it past them

Either way it came back wet and went in dry, maybe they threw a bucket of water through an open window
