General auto express grande punto

I have an old auto express group test report from when the new (1986) panda came out, and it says "the Daihatsu domino is our car of choice, as it brings together flair and style, which are two things the fiat panda cannot give" what a load of sh*t :D

Mmmmmmmmmm stylish ;).....

the review when they had a group test with the G punto, they moaned that the new clio rattled and squeaked everywhere but it was still better than the punto lol.

Although they did rate the punto above the fiesta! shock eh!

For balance, try the April edition of Car magazine where they compare 18 new superminis including the Grande Punto and the Suzuki Swift (which was their favourite last year). The Punto comes top :)

I get the distinct impression though that some of the early demo cars had a non-standard specification as well as occasionally flaky build quality (eg. my local dealer's Dynamic 1.3 Multijet demo car didn't have alloy wheels) therefore Auto Express must have had one of those early cars. Whoops...

Although magazine tests may make interesting reading material, I very much doubt that there's many people who let them influence the cars they choose. I read Top Gear magazine every month, and they always scored the last Punto very low in tests, but it didn't stop me from wanting one!

Im knowen by my friends and colleagues as an italian car fan and everyone keeps coming up to me and saying "have you seen the Grande Punto advert, it looks dead sexy" Ive got the feeling its gonna do very well.

I think they are wrong...having that said here is a quote from the Yahoo review:

Look at those teardrop-shaped headlamps and chromed air intake. If you saw that appearing in your rear view mirror, youd be forgiven for thinking a Maserati Coupe had sliced through the traffic and was sitting on your back bumper. Styled by Italdesign-Giugiaro in partnership with Centro Stile Fiat, the Grande Punto is one of those rare cars that looks good from every angle. Five-door or three-door version, it makes no difference.

Man that makes me horny :p

But I presume that the UK will get the 16V as well, or not? Believe me if I say that the Grande Punto in the UK is more complete than here in Holland. For example: the Dynamic in the UK comes with alloys, here in Holland the standard steel rims.

Speaking to one of the dealers here about it. I was told that the delivery with steel rims was a mistake and they need to change them all over to alloys at no cost to the owners. This is the official version.

I wouldn't be surprised if the truth is that they didn't get the alloys in time for the production and had to fit the steel ones.

Anyway, ask the dealer about the alloy situation. They may be instructed to do so and don't being able to charge for something the manufacturer (time) without doing it.

If I'm not mistaking it says in the folder that alloys for the Dynamic are an option so I think here in the Netherlands the steel rims are no mistake.

Saw my first GP in the flesh at the weekend.

From the side it looked like a cross between a Polo and a Hyundai Getz.
Bit disappointing considering the effort made with the front end.

 Are you serious? I think it looks far from those two, but then again I could be wrong!:p
