Hello Fiat owners,

I am having trouble with my 2009 Fiat Grande Punto 1.4 Petrol
The car has 75000 miles if relevant.

I attached 2 pics with the dash lights that show in the following sequence:

Usually: 1 & 2 will appear first, then 3. Sometimes 4 will light from the start but most times will light at very end.

So after 1, 2 & 3 will light the speedometer will stop working. After a few seconds only light no. 3 will remain and the speedometer will start working again.

At this point, the power steering fails and the fuel cut off light (no.4) will stay on.

What I did so far:
- changed the battery, brand new one
- cleaned the earth leads ( from ( - ) to chassis and on gearbox
- new earth lead from ECU to battery.

Now the car does the same but not so often. I really don't know what to do anymore.

I checked the wires in the booth, they seem to be ok, at least what I could see.

Today the car engine stopped and when I tried to restart it the key wasn't recognized so I had to disconnect the battery and wait for 10 mins. After this worked but the engine stopped again. The second time it started.

Any advice mates?

L.E. Just uploaded a video on YT with a strange sound coming from ECU.

I did that. Everything looks ok, dry etc. Anything specific to look for?

Thank you for your reply.
I will take a look on Friday, my day off.
Strange thing is that in the morning, during my 4 miles commute everything works fine. Then, in the evening the same.
If, for example, I decide to go in the evening somewhere else, so basically that would be a 2nd trip, the car goes nuts.

Also, the outside temperature shows: -- °C

Hello people,

Hope you're having a nice weekend :D

I just disassembled the fusebox in the engine bay and there was no trace of water. The cables are intact and seem ok. The sockets are clean, however the fuses are flimsy and wobbly (n). The relays are solid as glued in :D

I've attached some pictures, tell me your opinion, maybe I missed something.

Looks like you have done a thorough job of taking it apart and inspecting everything to me. When you say the fuses are 'loose' and 'woobly' are they not secure ?...Do you think this could be a problem?

In my opinion it shouldn't affect because the fuse are secure in the sockets but the sockets are just clamped at the end of the cable.

When I firstly start the car, in the morning and I go to work, runs perfect. At 5 pm when I start it again after 8 hours, it rus perfect. If I decide to go somewhere else let say in 20 min from when I got home, the dashboard goes nuts (as in pictures from my first post).

I find this very strange. It's a random problem, and because it's random, it's very hard to detect the cause.

I misunderstood you re the fuses.

Have you tried reading the car for any fault codes?..seems to be a potential overheating problems somewhere,if it runs fine from a cold start..make sense?

Just listned to the you tube video..if thats the ECU making that noise then id be taking if off and sending it away for testing OR getting a second hand one and associated hardware, second hand.

It has nothing to do with overheating because if I start the engine, leave it 1 min, stop it. At the second start, even if the water temp is still <30°C, the errors appear...

The computer doesn't store any errors :(
