Hey guys looking to change the the drive belt tensioner assembly on my car. GP 1.4 Tjet 2009.

I've been looking around on eBay/ euro car parts. The brands i am getting are SKF , Gates , Febi. Can anyone vouch for quality of these or is it best to go OEM for th8s type of part?

Thanks.

To be honest I am not all that impressed with Gates stuff.

I recieved a so called Gates crank pulley in a gates box, but no ink Gates stamp on the pulley. It was a copy pretending to be a Gates original.

It was returned to the motor factor and Gates where informed with pictures etc..

Its been 2 years now and still no answer from Gates.

The replacement pulley had an ink Gates stamp and fitted, after some "rectification" on my part. This particular pulley controls timing belt ( was an auxiliary drive pulley for alternator, idles, p/steering and other stuff as well ) movement on the pulley inner faced.

This face was poorly machined and would have caused the timing belt real DAMAGE had it been fitted as is. This really rough surface face was smoothed and polished as best as possible and has been running now for the past 2 years and some 12k miles.

Time to inspect the cam belt just as a precaution, cos you know what would happen if the cam belt "went"!!!

A Gates cam belt kit was fitted to the lads ****ron Picasso, and the idler and tensioner pullies had Made in China bearings fitted, with some play!

Gates, not impressed. A mere marketing company rather than a manufacturer me thinks.

Make your own mind up on this, but I will not use Gates stuff ever again.
