Hi Folks,

Quick question. What type of coolant to use, there's Red, Green and Blue variants avaialble from Wurth.

Is there any difference between these colours?

Not the best article but covers the basics.

I think most FIAT family vehicles use red/pink OAT based coolant. Each reacts very badly with the others, and can cause corrosion which is exactly what you're trying to prevent.

Check the handbook, replace with a coolant of the same type. Don't have a handbook? Check the downloads section :)

Note that colour is NOT a positive means of identifyying coolant type. When buying you need to check the type and specification.

Is this just for a top-up or are you changing the coolant? Unless you know the service history of the car you cannot be sure what type is in the car.

If just topping up you can get "universal" coolant that will mix with any type. One brand is Prestolite, it's yellow.
If changing the coolant I'd recommend using the OAT "longlife" type but whatever you use a flush (fill and drain) with clean water is required.

Hi Robert,

Thanks for the quick response and clarification. Unfortunately here in Sri Lanka, if I go an ask for OAT type coolant from a shop, no would know. Here it's all bout colour :(

I need to do a complete flush as it's just water in the radiator. I've seen a few longlife type coolants online. Will give this a shot.

Thanks again.
