Just had my MOT done and it's failed cos the nearside front coil spring has gone.....has anyone any idea how expensive it will be to fix it, obviously if it's too much it my not be worth it as the car is not worth that much.

Cheers in advance.

It's cheap to do. A new spring can be bought for 20 quid. Are you fitting yourself or getting a garage to do it? Labour costs wouldn't be any more than an hour or two as it's relatively easy to do. Different models do have slightly different spring rates in the springs though so make sure you get the correct one. What model have you got?

Recently had mine done
I was quoted between £90-£120 for all four springs replaced (labour only as i had springs)
i got it done for £70 cash @£90 garage :slayer:

Cheers, i've ordered a spring myself, any idea how much labour would be?

You could save money and be on the safe side by replacing both of them as a full kit WITH the front absorber and do the job yourself ... Really not that hard !

Labour won't be much. Depends where you go. But you should only be charged for an hour or 2 tops. I'd be worried if it's taking a garage more than 2 hours to change 1 spring.

Agreed though personally I would never replace just one spring - that can give you dangerous handling if there's a difference between new and old

Always replace both sides.. I would consider taking the suspension legs off and then taking them to your garage..

I watched my garage change the springs a few years ago,on a different car,in about five minutes!

Its easy enough to get the legs off if you dont mind spannering..is a guide on here. I changed the complete legs for complete units and the biggest faff was removing the window screen wipers!:slayer:
