Coolant temp sensor location

Hi guys as above can anyone tell me where the temp sensor is located on the grande punto? Pic would be great..also what type sensor is it as i have been told there is 2?

Did a search and it seems this is at fault as temp needle stays low and have the eml on now and then when it happens.

Many thanks

Passenger side of engine on side of block integrated into thermostat. You'd be as well just changing thermostat, fairly quick and easy on 1.2 / 1.4 8v and comes with new sensor

Cheers

Re: Coolant temp sensor location

Hi Gpmo.

If you take a look at a thread I had one here a few months ago I have some pictures of the thermostat from a 1.2 8v which may help you, replacing the part was easy too if you want to go down that route.

Here

I had a leak in my thermo housing and was causing me to lose coolant like there's no tomorrow.

As you can see from the pics the thermo sensor on mine was green.

Maybe you might find some of the info in that post useful?

Thanks and good luck!

Ghandimate you are a star. Thats helped massively. Touch would thers no leaks the temp needle seems to sit low and a few times its dropped and eml light has popped up too after a quick search it seems the sensor might be the issue here...i hope.

Thanks again.

Me again bumping an old thread...

Is this (the bit with the yellow clip) hiding the coolant temp sensor? I think based on the helpful diagram above it's actually an air temp sensor that's attached to the coolant temp sensor?

Any tips for removing it? So far I've gotten the yellow clip out

Hey

Yes you are right that is the temp sensor. But again agree with above.you may want to consider changing thermostat also, easy enough just take time I did mine literally weekend gone so fresh in my mind lol. With the clip u need to pull the yellow clip back and then it should reveal under it a bouncy black part that u push down on to release. Just take time and just wiggle it left and right whilst pulling backwards gently. Also be car full putting back on I slightly deformed mine .Click image for larger version

I may just go ahead and return the coolant temp sensor and buy the whole unit (including thermostat). I have the MAP sensor to fit this evening which I suspect will get the car running again, but keen to replace the coolant temp sensor too since that was the error code I had/have.

Thanks again for taking the time to reply.
Thanks everson38 thanked for this post

Yeah no worries. I changed it on a punto tjet and if I can do it on that engine anyone can. The choice is yours in the end but I changed my thermostat and radiator hose cz there was a small leak where the too met, so decided to flush whole system. Change radiator hose and the thermostat and fresh antifreeze .

Would be a good idea to replace parts one at a time, just to confirm your error code is related to one or the other sensor ...

That's the plan! The MAP sensor has been swapped and didn't fix anything, so coolant temp sensor next. Had a go at removing the air temp monitor from it this evening and failed. Also, does anyone know the socket size required to remove the coolant temp sensor?
