So after 130k my turbo has the whining noise, sounds like a siren, it's getting progressively louder (slowly), iv had the car around 3-4 months and it was doing it then, but didn't seem to affect performance, however it is remapped to around 180bhp, and iv not driven it with a turbo that doesn't whine so I can't say if it really isn't perfecting performance or not.

I am wanting to upgrade the turbo for a bigger one, what would be the next step? What turbos would you recommend and what do I need to look out for?

My concerns are the m32 gearbox in these are terrible and I think a bigger turbo would add more torque and kill the box.
Another concern is possibly needing a custom manifold as the current garrett gt17v vnt turbo is mated with a manifold.

Overall would you think it's worth it to upgrade or to just replace it with the same turbo?

I understand I would need to add a bigger FMIC etc but I want more information on the turbo, what hp it can provide up to etc and the best upgrade options.

Cheers

It would help if we knew what engine are we talking about? the 1.9 diesel?

The cheapest way: get an balanced CHRA replacement ( but to do this i would first take it aparat and make sure all other components are ok, the vanes are working, and any actual rubbing on the housings is minimal (should be small enough to go away with a bit of 600 sand paper, and some polish)

The way i would do it: find other fiats, like the Stilo 1.9 150 hp, i think those have separate manifolds, so you could use that...maybe even the turbo if it's bigger.
You may not have enough space for it.. but it's worth a try.

Sorry Yeah it's the 1.9 diesel, I want more power but iv heard the boxes are only really good for 200hp in these, mostly the torque that kills them though

I have got a few quotes for a turbo and the best being a new one with 2 year warranty and gasket for £275 which is a good deal I think.

But the question again is, is it worth going to a bigger turbo and more power?
