I suppose your wallet resistance has also precluded you telling your insurance company of this modification .

I amazes me that people will go for these sensor signal fudge boxes instead of a proper re-map. Lots of people saying they work but I guess they are not going to tell us they spent a lot of money on a box and then it burnt a hole in a piston or valve.

i cant imagine a well respected tuning company like bluespark, will make a box that will ruin your car, and like any modification you do to your car something can go wrong. something breaks, you learn on here how to fix it (or ask bernie) ;)
and then you have learnt something new. thats what its here for.
also ive had custom remaps on previous cars fords etc , but money is tight and im looking to do a td04 conversion with vxr injectors, sports cat exhaust etc. so why would i map in the vl36, which came with the car, just to map the td04 and supporting mods again?
as for insurance im fully comp + declared.
thanks for your input anyway(n)

also as a moderator i'd of thought you would have read up the post, so unless you think £50 for a tuning box retailing at £150 with good reviews and dyno printouts is a lot of money then im unsure what you mean.
im glad youre amazed

Hi,
I was referring to tuning boxes and their purchasers in general, not you or Bluespark in particular. I di read the whole thread. Bluespark do seem to be better than most, at least they publish their address on their website. But I note that they do not publish full terms and conditions or warranty online and their definition of "warranty friendly" seems to refer to the ability to remove it without leaving obvious evidence. Their description of which is better, re-map or tuning box is pretty woolly. I sort of give them credit for that, at least they are not making outrageous claims. It's just fundamentally wrong to me as an engineer to fudge the input or output signal(s) of a modern ECU when re-mapping is an option.
Glad to hear you are responsible and have told your insurers.

Hi Bob & All,

when reading some site my (limited) understanding is that "warranty" actually means "insurance" ... Am I the only one ;-) ??

Cheers, Bernie.

Hi a bit of a language / usage issue I think.
Here in the UK a warranty or guarantee in this respect is a promise that if the item supplied does not perform as required or fails, the purchaser will get their money back, the unit repaired or some other compensation from the supplier.
Insurance is typically referring to purchased cover that provides compensation for damage or injury. This is normally independent of the supplier and in this case refers to car insurance covering the driver having an accident. In the UK if you modify your car (even cosmetic changes for some insurance companies) and don't tell the insurance company they can cancel your insurance if you have a claim and find out about the modification. They have to pay for any damage you caused to others, but won't pay for your car and may even take legal action to recover what they paid to the other(s) from you.
Language varies, for example in New Zealand "warrant" in connection with a car is similar to a UK MOT test certificate.

thanks for the nice explanation Robert, but I still understand the sentence above as an illustration of " not seen not caught " as said in French ;-)
Does this apply to the car insurance or to the car's manufacturer warranty ? Who knows, but I'd say to both of them, at least for some people...

Regards, Bernie.
