Hi,

If my 1.4 Sporting has been parked for an hour or more usually when I start it I'll get an error to check the power steering. If I turn the wheel full lock both ways and re-start it clears and is fine until it's been turned off and left for a while again.

30% of the time it will start without error.

It's been in the garage and the diag shows an error with the steering angle sensor so they changed the switch with no luck. Just to be sure they tried a 2nd unit, still no joy. They also mentioned the yaw sensor.

Looking for suggestions on what to try next.

Cheers!

Whilst the steering columns do fail, its worth checking the simple things first.

The fact that it occurs on start-up suggests to me that it might be related to a low battery. A low battery charge is a well known cause of such errors on the Grande. There has been a rash of similar errors in the last couple of weeks since the weather turned cold.

If you have a battery charger, you could give that a go overnight and see if the errors occurs in the morning.

How old is the battery and do you get any funny noises from the alternator?

The battery is a couple of months old and was replaced to try and solve the problem :(

No funny noises and I've been getting the error since late July so sadly I don't think it's the cold either.

Whilst that does make it sound less likely, I'd still be tempted to get the alternator checked out before shelling out on a expensive steering column.

Is the steering angle sensor in the steering switch or column?
