Hi all,
In my GP 1.9 sporting I'm having a small issue at the moment but it is bugging me.

When engine braking (more noticeable in lower gears) I get a whirring noise. but when I press the clutch or accelerate it goes away? Any ideas would be very kindly appreciated please, apart from that no other issues at all.

Many thanks,

Mark

check your alternator , I had a whining noise on De-celeration/acceleration and at ilde on my MK2, turned out to be my Alternator.

however with it being a GP 1.9 possibly symptoms with the gearbox.. does it whine in all gears?

Cheers mate, sounds likely cause. How would I go about checking it? I wouldn't describe it as a whining it's more of a air sucking noise in all gears yeah.
Many thanks,
Mark

Just an update,
Had it in the garage yesterday and it's the DMF :( so the clutch and slave cylinder will have to be replaced too.
There getting me a quote today but I can imagine it's not going to be cheap,
Kind regards,
Mark

Ouch! Not going to be a cheap fix :( make sure you ask around friends for recommended garages, keep us updated

Thanks for the advice mate, £865 to do job using parts claimed to be if equivalent (if not better than oem) fiat parts would have cost £1300 to do job, and my dad's friend owns the garage, it's a fiat service garage so they've done the job before.
Many thanks,
Mark
