Hi,

Just bought a new Grande punto and noticed the mileage started flashing last night.

What should I do? Can I still drive the car?

Thanks in advance!

welcome to the forum

When you say new is it brand new? or just new to you? if so what year?

The flashing milage is an indication of a Proxi alignment issue with one of the cars Nodes......

(basically speaking the cars computer is out of synchronisation with one of its systems eg the body computer isn't seeing the blue and me unit)

so if its a new car take it back........ the dealership can do a Proxi alignment to reset the units using the dealership computer

If its second hand or from a none fiat garage... i'd try taking the battery off for 30 mins (remove the battery quick release clamp) and stuff it out the way

then reconnect after 30 mins this should reset the computer and the nodes,

If it happens again after this get the battery tested sometimes if the cars been stood a while on the garage forecourt it can cause many random issues due to the battery loosing charge and as these computers run on voltage based signals the car will throw random sulks until the battery is fully charged (via a battery charger) or if knackered replaced.... i got about 4 years out of my 1.2 gp battery before it started playing up (y)

Hi Andy,

Thanks!

I bought the car privately and it's an 07 reg, just new to me.

I'm not technically minded so that doesn't mean much to me but I'll see if I can get someone to look at the car. How much are you talking if you take it to a garage?

Am I ok to drive the car today or could/will this cause further damage.

Cheers

Right chances are the battery is on its way out assuming its never been changed... Many garages do a free battery test (as a way of selling a new battery to you) so take advantage of the free test then haggle as if your life depends on it.....

http://www.eurocarparts.com/

have a 20% off all parts at the moment (discount code - ALL20) price up a battery before you go

(ideal if you have a smart phone as you can wave the price under the garages nose and ask if they can match it  )

its not hard to do honest..

But to try resetting the system is not hard honest...

open bonnet

locate battery

open this lever

attachment.php

and pull terminal clamp upwards and leave disconnected for half an hour then refit by pushing down firmly and closing lever (y)

It wont do any harm driving the car if it was a safety critical failure you would see a warning light on the dash

Hi again,

Now MPG seems to have replace the mileage odometer. HELP!! :(

Thanks in advance

disconnect negative terminal on battery, if that dont cure it hold down trip button or the menu button, sgould scroll through the rest of the options, when u get back to mileage should not be flashing anymore
