Seasons Greetings Fiat lovers.
(y)

Problem with my punto today...
Reverse light sometimes engages, sometimes doesn't.
Had a quick look online on forums.
Put windscreen wiper on at front and engaged reverse.
Rear wiper sometimes goes on and sometimes doesn't - I'd say 50% chance.

Wiring fault?

Soon after, warning came on saying my Hill start assist was not available.

Someone helpppp!!!
:(

Fiat electronics, great when they work
The reverse light sounds like a switch/sensor is sticking or failing or feeling a bit under the weather
But the hill holder is known to be tempermental, when I drive I never see the message but when my misses drives the message sometimes appears, something to do with how you push the clutch pedal, the good news is it seems to sort itself out
Might be best to see what the new year brings, you never know it might get better all by itself
Happy new year to all

Indeed, hill holder I remember flashed up a couple of months back, sorted it self out.

Just a tad worried regarding reverse light as MOT is coming up and may not pass because of it. Frustrating!!!

Any idea on how to push the front panel down of the GP?
Front vent that blows on windscreen, right side has popped up, can't seem to just click it back down for some reason.

Advice on how to remove black specks on rims is good as well, seeing as I have white rims, it's a PAIN to get clean.

I had the same issues.
Hill holder, ASR fault everything came along.
Al due to a faulty reverse sensor, 14 euro's and about 1 hour work to get to it and replace it.

I wrote a guide for it: https://www.fiatforum.com/grande-punto-guides/306906-replace-reverse-switch-gars4.html

That would be my first bet before spending loads of money on a garage to find the fault.

Thanks!

I don't have a clue how to get to the sensor though - any help is appreciated!

What part number etc will I need?!

MOT due so need to do this sharpish!

yours manual transmission?

Also the Reversing light is not MOT testable under the regs...

Lamps, Reflectors and Electrical Equipment

Front and rear position lamps, End Outline Marker Lamps and registration plate lamps
Stoplamps
Rear Fog Lamps
Direction indicators and hazard warning devices
Rear reflectors
Audible Warning (Horn)
Headlamps
Headlamp aim
Electrical Wiring and Battery

Yeah, 6 Gear Manual GP MJet.

That mean that I won't fail MOT?
Everything else is ok, had a service early Jan of last year I believe.

Hill holder now constantly unavailable.
When I start up the car, says ASR disconnected, then connected...
...just want to fix her up!!!
Dodgy wiring?
Want to try and replace the rear sensor, but don't know which part to buy, or how to replace it on the car!

the guide above should help you find it

as per the other faults you need someone with multiecu scan or fes to get you closer to the fault..

if it happens just after you drive off are all the tyres on the car the same size and correctly inflated ?

could be many things faulty wheel sensor yaw sensor, does the ABS light come on?

Damn... looking like I'll have to put it into a garage possibly.
Any idea if it's going to cost me the earth?

I did inflate the tyres last week, will need to check if it's the right psi.
Front 36 and rear 34 I remember doing at my local Esso.

Just says ASR disconnected, then ASR connected on the little screen.
Then will beep at me saying Hill Holder is unavailable - refer to handbook.

Not confident in replacing sensor... might have to read up on it more as the thread above only gives me images. :(

I know it sounds stupid that one sensor can cause all these errors, I also thought this when I had the problems.
But replacing the sensor fixed all of them.

And if you think about it it kinda makes sense:

The sensor is needed for the ECU to detect if your driving in reverse or not.
If it cannot detect this some systemen that need to know this are affected.

For example the Hill Holder - it only works when driving upwards on a hill.
If you have th car in reverse on a hill and you release the pedal the brakes instantly release, at least that's what mine does.

Thanks mate, I'll replace the sensor when I find one.
Looks like I'll have to stick my head under the car. Is there a step by step way of doing this? I don't even have a clue where it's located! (somewhere at the back haha!) Need to know what equipment to use as well.

Saying all that, where can I pick up the part from in the UK? Do you have the model number or something I can use to look up and buy online?

Cheers man, really appreciate it.

Hill holder is now constantly unavailable now. Light stays on and I've had to turn off warning buzzer as it was getting on my nerves everytime I started engine!

See the link in my first post for the guide I wrote.
I have no idea where to get the part in the UK as I'm in the Netherlands.
Partnumber is unkown to me I just called the dealer and ordered one, cost me about 15 euro's.
