Hi there I am new to this place, recently I have had this problem with number plate bulb and the garrage fixed for me also MOted it at same time. Then I got this error rarely and intermittedly "stop light check" or something similar, then the error came more often, I have noticed the when brake pedal down (pressed) my left hand side light does not work, however all other brake lights do. Also recently again rare occasion the turn signal left started to "blink" erratically at times, but now its all the time. on the other hand right hand side and hazzards are fine. also an error "LHS light ....." something error comes up. also notices that the brake lights go "hazardy" (both sides go on same time one), all the while the left hand side signal does not work at all.

could someone point me in the right direction, please bear in mind i am not that great with cars.

PS sorry if there is another thread already please help

Welcome Elky :wave:

This sounds like a "earth" issue with your light cluster or possibly a faulty bulb,,,,

first thing to do is to remove the rear lamp from the car you might need some release oil (wd-40 / plus gas/ duck oil / GT85) but not always to remove the 2 screws...

remove the plug and check all the contacts are clean if not use some of the above oil or dedicated contact cleaner to clean up all the terminals and the bulb holders (try not to scrape at them using a metal item as you dont want to scratch off the anti corrosion coatings...

if that fails then check the bulbs replace them all for what they cost whilst in there most likely it will b the combined stop and tail light bulb at fault if its not corrosion in the plugs.....

if that fails you need to check the boot earth post is clean and tight (let me know if you need this bit explaining if the above doesnt work

thank you!!!

will try that today, i think the bulbs shoukb be fine as they work intermittedly, but as a course of action i will do it, the earth contacts i will see, the third thing you said could you show me. also could anyone please show me the relay (if there is one, for that side of the car please, the ampage n location etc). one more thing you are awesome bro thanks again

I'd concur with Andy, either an earthing problem or dirty contacts on the multiplug. I'd personally go with mutiplug 1st.

thanks guys, for the quick replies and help, I took the cluster apart checked the multiplug contacts if they earthed which they did on the cars side, the only bulb holder which will not work is the indicater light on the left hand side, even i swaped the clusters from the other side and the indicator didnt work, i did use wd 40 to clean the whole thing yet those things did not work. soo i am thinking of changing the whole cluster of the left side to remady it, do you guys know anything about a fault code reader for fiat, like the vw have a rosstechs vcds???

thanks in advance:confused::devil::slayer::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry:

yes two new ones no work, there is no ground in the holder which meeans the holder is gon, there was this blue colour residue all over the metal bits of the indicator bulb area, tried to clean it off nothing could you tell me how to check for the boot lid post ground

hi, andy monty to be honest this post was on my friends behalf who has this problem with his punto grande ( i own a vw golf) so am not too sure what it could be. Yesterday he n his dad managed to botch a repair in which the lights started to work again, now this morning my friend says to me that the botch has failed and so has left hand side signals. the way he botched according to him is through connecting a wire from one place to another and placing a tissue paper to stop the lights shorting out (i know its vauge, the paper is on the bulb holder, the wire i assume in the same location)

Theree is also a bit of plastic hole where the indicator light supposed to be and there is a metal piece missing (according to him). Is this definitive enough to warrant to a new part i.e. the whole rear cluster or atleast the bulb holder? thanks very much

Also andy monty to anwer your question there is current on the rest of the bulbs but there is a kinda intermittant current on the indicator part (i dont know much about electricals to be honest) but when they was checking they did find that it was groud other bulbs properly n the indicator intermittant

After changing bulbs, checking fuses, checking connections, earths and wires, I fixed the issue by changing the near side (left side) rear Brake light bulb, it looked ok, but there was a bit of black soot on the inside of the bulb, also the indicator bulb was dull before I changed the brake light bulb, and now it's bright again, hope this helps others.

I fixed this by taking all the bulbs out, turn lights on then off. put in new bulbs. If you test before putting back on car you will find that the new brake bulb will not light up until the whole light is attached back on to car. Make sure you changed the two brake light bulbs at same time else you will soon have same "Check Stop Light" problem occur again?
