After a very long search on the web and quite a few garage phone calls I've narrowed the vibration coming through the steering wheel whilst stationary and turning the steering wheel slowly left and right to be a fault with the electric steering colum, as the problem is within the unit I've been advised to put a new one in. £400 from fiat!
Quick look on a well known auction site and a fiat approved seller has them for £225 posted dependant on part exchanging with the one from the car, and they also offer a service to fit them too.

Will message again once I receive an email back with the total price for fitting included.

Hey
I've jsut had the same problem.

Ordered the part from Bristol and got my local garage to fit it. They charged £70. Quotes were all over the place for me though upto £200.

If you're near Bristol it may be best to get them to fit for you though. Think they supply and fit for around £300 but they seem to know it in and out.

Otherwise you may have the same problem as me and it could turn out to be very expensive.

Finally they've got back to me.
They offer a fitting service for £90 and will 'dispose the old part' (strip it down, fix it, then flog it)
So the total will be around £320 fully fitted.
Only catch for me is there located just past Birmingham in tamworth, quite a drive from Cumbria
