Hey guys,

Just want to ask a quick question, Not sure if its my Brakes but everytime i turn or put the car on full lock, it always sounds like the brakes are scraping either against my wheel or something around there..

thought id ask and see if anyone else knows what im on about or if im just cracking up..

If you do know, any help on how to fix this?

Cheers!

The brakes move with the wheel so they'd either be scraping all the time or not at all, which is sort of impossible because for the brakes to scrape it would mean that the alloy didn't fit over. Unless you've got some strange aftermarket alloys then I don't think this is your case.

I think the top strut mount on the GP causes a creaking noise at full lock, that could be it, try looking that up.

Oh and Hello fellow Newcastle member

Hello,

If you have rear discs it could be the squeal shims on the rear pads, the squeal shims are basically two pieces of metal on the brake pad that rub against the disc to let you know that the pads are getting low and need changing.

If you don't have rear discs it could be a wheel bearing or a small stone trapped between the front disc and pad.

My money would be on the squeal shims (y)

Hope this helps, Daz.

I have rear disks but it sounds like its coming from the from.

When i spoke to a friend of mine about it he said that some cars do it and some dont..

Tbh alot of stuff has been weird with it since i got the tyres changed, The car seems to be going quite alot to the left, doubt it'll be the tracking only because the car is still riding high so its normally when it gets lowered.. and now this scraping been more frequent since then!

Shall take a good look over at the weekend and see.

Thanks for the replys :)

as above check the heat sheild ALSO CHECK YOUR WHEEL NUTS ARE STILL TIGHT!

Happened to me a few years back and it was the heat shield, the discs form a lip on the edges that rub on the heat shield.

Its actually starting again on mine.

Quick question guys, is it possible to put the discs onto a lathe and remove the lip? My heat shields are a bit flimsy and would more than likely snap if I try and move it a little and the discs have plenty of life left in them.

Wouldn't need a lathe, when the discs are off, the heat shield is attached by one bolt. (or at least that's what I remember from changing mine last year)
