I am a new member and posted a question a couple of days ago regarding my Fiat Eleganza Automatic Panda. I bought it last Sunday and found it was beeping when I started it up. It would only stop when I engaged N but I thought I was doing the startup wrongly as I thought I had to start by pushing the handle to the left. However, then I found your reply to this post, and realise that going into N was the correct thing to do.
Thank you so much for your very comprehensive answer, it has helped me so much. I love the car, but was getting so disillusioned with it.

Merrycon you need to put foot on break an have it in neutral on start up. An when want go into any gear or neutral (change at any time from stationaly) you need foot on brake again. Its in the manual an take some getting used to. Good luck

From memory you only need your foot on the brake to go into gear and start, not to go into neutral. This will work without your foot on the brake. But its a good habit to just put your foot on the brake all the time anyway

Mine you have to put it on the break when going into neutral. Will double check as its just something automatically done.

Would of imagined that all dialogic gearboxes are the same. Can't see them changing it with different car models

Don't make that assumption, they're ALL different in their own way. Panda has +&- other way around to the Grande Punto and Bravo for example.

I have just registered.
Only because I have a Fiat Punto diesel MK2 with Dualogic gearbox. Gear 4 stuck in and car stopped. Being an auto semi now cannot start. Recovered to a local garage and he refused to touch it after 4 hours on ramp. Told me get the vehicle to Fiat Dealer only.

Just purchased the car less than 2 weeks ago from a private deal but I suspect he is a trader who sold car back doors. Because the document names a different person and he is with another name. He failed to provide a receipt when requested and sold the car via gumtree to me. I checked gumtree support but to no better news. However I have recorded his messages and address via gumtree messages in iPhone app for gumtree. He even signed the v5 logbook as a registered keeper in front of us and I think that could be illegal as he was perhaps the trader (suspected) and the named owner. Also he was always talking about the gearbox being faultless all of his time during sale of vehicle. Which kind of sounded suspicious but unlucky me I had no idea what hell was going to happened to me in less than 8 days. The car always had issues since I took the car but I thought by restarting the car it should be fine. But it didn't.
Now I have called him to take the car back but he refused and told me it's sold as seen. I have told him via writing that under my rights as at 01/10/2015 the consumer rights act. He misrepresented the sale and told me it was in perfect condition however it was not it broke down with gear issues and now being stuck with a car that I am paying insurance and paid all road tax and still out of own transport option. I have booked the car with Fiat Arbury for initial diagnosis and fault finding but I am being led to believe the cost of repairs is no less than 1680 GBP at motor mech in Birmingham.
My dear fellow members please help and I am feeling very bad and emotional.

Edit. He is not the named owner of vehicle he sold. He told me that the at belonged to his member of family somewhere far away.

I am looking to get help via citizens advice bureau at earliest appointment. And as well as log a case at small claims court.

I have informed him of my intentions via writing. He even spoke to me to find a garage to have it repaired and he will think about the bill only. I have no idea what will happen to this car sale but I also don't whom to get help from at the moment apart from CAB and small claims court. I don't know his real name and I only know the place where he sold the car apart from gumtree advert number and his messages being exchanged I have no other means of information whether he is a claimed charity worker for dog rescue or a vehicle trader.

Yes it's in Birmingham sitting on public road at the moment. It may need to towed to any local garage. Just paid loads to a local recovery truck driver. After HiQ refused to fix issue.

I am so much frustrated as I have not been in this situation before. I am hardly coming to terms that someone got all 1400 in cash and sold a car which is in scrap value just 45 GBP only.
Currently the insurer still charging too much as its not drivable as they been told but still nothing can be forgiven at such a hard time.

Also I don't think "the seller from Derby" he is ready to pay for any bill even if I get it written down which part needs fix by a garage. He is perhaps known to others too for selling these kind of cars which broke down easily.
I don't mind paying up to 200 to 300 to fix it but I am being scared to look at 1680 and so on at other garages.

I have noted all screen captures to prove it in small claims court about his sale and not being named on v5 logbook.
Perhaps DVLA can send proof of previous owners signature and his signature on log books don't match because certainly he signed the registered keeper section in front of me to make me feel comfortable that he is not a rogue trader but private seller.
I wish I can take him to criminal court for such action.

I am only writing because this is thread for dual logic gearbox. And that's the symptom. I have started a thread there in mk2 forum so I can get personalised response. Thanks for guide.
