I have a Grande Punto 1.4 8v sporting 4 years old done 18K miles. The car has been out of action for two weeks now with gear selection failure due to selespeed hydraulic pump not primeing when drivers door is opened. I was not sure as to the cause so I checked out everything practical and have now discovered that the pump gets a 12v supply when the door is opened but does not run so i guess the pump is shot unless anyone has any different ideas.
Is it practical to replace the pump oneself or is it a dealership job? I enquired with a local dealership and they told me a story that the whole of the selespeed equipment would have to be replaced includeing actuators etc which sounds to me like a rip off. Anyone got ant advice on the best way forward on this?
Thanks

It's possible to replace the pump yourself, but you'll ideally need Dealer equipment to check everything afterwards, assuming it is the pump (you've got the 12v supply, but is it being earthed by the ECU?).

ePer on here is a bit old and doesn't show the Dualogic system for the GP, but it's there for the earlier mk2, and shows the pump available seperately- http://eper.fiatforum.com/eper/navi...=3&WINDOW_ID=1&SGRP_COD=0&SGS_COD=1&DRW_NUM=7

Thanks for your thoughts on this. Good point re the earthing, I will I will try a strait + and - feed from the battery takeing the + off the load side of the 30amp battery box fuse. If that does not run the pump then the pump must be shot. When I checked the feed to the pump with a multimeter it showed 12V across the + & - pins of the line connector to the pump. If there was no earth connection on the - pin I should not have got a reading.

Thanks again.

I had this problem with the Panda with the Dualogic, unlike the Alfa Romeo Selespeed system, if you bring it back to a Fiat dealer you will be required to change both the hydraulic pump and actuators together as it comes in 1 module. Cost around £1100 for a replacement, though that was 2 years ago.

Interestingly, the pump unit can be separated from the actuator unit, but Fiat won't sell them separately...buggers. But if your actuators are working fine, then your options are replace the actuator anyway, find someone who needs the actuator unit but has a working pump, you might get lucky and be able to do a deal of somekind, or get a bit creative..... that pump body and electrical part to it is identical to the one in an Alfa Romeo 147 Selespeed which you could buy off shelve, but where it is different is the head, just swap the head, put the pump back and open the door it will work.

However if you go the route of changing the actuators and pump, then you will also need to bleed the system and replace the hydraulic oil, and while not strictly necessary to do it at a Fiat franchised dealer, you will need to go to a dealer who has the computer system to adjust and calibrate the actuator to the clutch biting point, most Fiat specialist will have this system as far as I know.

Hope this helps.

Not strictly true. Granted, when the system first came out, it was only available as a complete lump, but as the Dealer's got more confident in working on it, Fiat began to release the individual components seperately (as they usually do).

You can see it in the Forum's version of ePer (it's old, so I've had to link to the mk2 Punto section rather than GP, but it's all there)-

I have looked at all ways of doing this myself but as per D4nn8oy's advice you can't bleed the hydraulics after replaceing the pump without having the use of the software to run a bleeding routine on the actuators associated with the gear shifting and the clutch. I have found this very annoying as what has to be done to change the pump is very simple and could be done in an hour or so.
