Hello all,

I've got a problem with my GP. It's developed a rattling coming from rear drivers side. I've taken it to two garages now, the first one couldn't find anything but assured me they'd crowbar-d everything and nothing was moving.

The second garage was a friend's, and so I was there throughout proceedings. It's a VW specialist, but they'd said they have a look.

Again, though, they were stumped.

They took the shocks off, drove it, still there. Dismantled the brakes, drove it, still there. They greased everything they could find. They even had someone in the boot with it open whilst they drove it to see if they could shed any more light on it.

They said the only thing left there was the springs that they didn't take off, but I'm not sure what's around the springs that could make the noise.

It almost sounds like it could be the exhaust, as the rhythm of it sound like something hanging and moving about rather than a 'thud' or a 'clunk'.

Does anyone have any ideas? I've been assured twice now that it's safe, there's no obvious movement in the wheels... but I'm not sure what else it could be. I've tried removing anything I had in the boot, and the spare wheel hole.

Thanks!

James

Ah, yes. Could be... I'm willing to give anything a go! Lol

So yours was the door rattling up against the latch (rather than the latch itself, the metal bit on the car body and not the door, moving)?

How did you fix it permanently?

James

I've just popped some electrical tape around it... and it appears to have stopped!

Though it had stopped for a little while before... so we shall see.

Thanks :D

Yeah sorry I ment the metal catches, the permanent fix is to get new catches from fiat as its the way they have been made so the new ones will sort it. :)

I'm not sure I understand, are the new catches different?

I've actually noticed my noise has come back. I'm wondering if the tape I used has now compressed to be as effective over a few days?

I'm slightly confused as to the problem the tape is solving (if that makes any sense?).

James

I've topped up my tape, and the noise is still there... but it did solve it for a little while, I'm sure... there was nothing at all... and I purposely too it over a bumpy car park to test. Previous to this the noise had existed for months :bang:

Any ideas? Lol

Sorry to bump this. Could anyone enlighten me as to what the 'tape fix' does? Does it just make the catch bigger/softer which hides the rattle? I'm really confused as to why the tape made it stop for a a few days... and then it came back with a vengeance!

Sorry to bring up an ancient thread (better than starting a new one, I guess!)... but I am still with rattle...

I have noticed a couple of things, though. When I got the car back from it's service at Fiat the noise was considerably less for a few days. I wondered if this could be because the car had been sitting with it's wheels off of the ground for a considerable amount of time.

I've also noticed that when I get it cleaned, it's also a bit quieter after that. I was thinking possibly the water that gets forced in?

Does that give anyone anything to go on?

:D
