Hi
I have a 1.4 8v and am looking to get some alloys.
I am looking at either 16" or 17".
i have read that 17 can affect the performance on a 1.2 8v and was wondering if it would affect the 1.4 8v
Many thanks

If they are heavy wheels, it can have an adverse effect in the 1.2 8v as there isn't sufficient power in the car to drive them properly. You get all sorts of issues with wheel bearings and the gear box.

The 1.4 on the other hand has a stronger drivechain (inc. gearbox). So you'll be fine.

As for the size 17's fill the arches better and are cheaper to buy tyres for so I'd avoid 16's.

1.2/8v & 1.4/8v = C514 Gbox?

Q. What distinguishes a 1.4/8v box from a 1.2/8v box?

Q. What like-for-like tyres are cheaper for 205/45R17V88 than 195/55R16H87?

.

May I ask what is the best then
I assume 16's would be fine or lightweight 17's
Many thanks

well its 50/50 on peoples views of fitting 17s on a 1.2, depending on how you drive and if they are lightweight its up to you about if you dont mind the risk.
16s would be a safer choice but wont look as good

So lightweight 17's shud b ok on a 1.4 8v.
And 16s should defo be ok on a 1.4 8v

My 17" alloys weigh 2.5kg (5kg more weight to drive in total) more each than my 15" steelies (both with tyres fitted) and its on eibach springs.

Done nearly 20k miles in my 1.2 8v on 17's and not had a single issue :/

As for the above info regarding the 1.2 vs the 1.4, I got this off this forum when I was putting mine on.........*runs off to find links*

Does the 1.4 8v not come with 16" wheels in dynamic trim so 16"s should be ok.
Does anybody have any recommendations of nice looking 16s
Many thanks
