hi guys i have a 56 plate grande punto 1.9 multi diesel 6 speed, bad day today returned from holiday jumped in car at airport driving home everything seemed fine untill on the motorway the car jumped out of 6th gear and proceeding to make a whining grating noise pulled over to hard shoulder aa man said sounded like diff had gone towed to garage do i need replacement box ? If so what kind of cost will i be looking at where is good to get one from ?

Sadly will need a new box, my Mjet whined in when doing a constant speed, fiat said it was the diff also had it checked at afew indies aswell, Sounds imilar to how mine sounded, mine was still pulling fine though, and was quoted £2000 for a box from fiat Im sure its a M32 box they were going for about £800ish on ebay when i was looking. Just had a new box in my megane 2.0T Cost £2500 but renault paid for that as its still in warranty and the seal perished.

Best of luck :)

If you get a salvage one make sure it comes with a decent amount of warranty! they told me was 14-18 hours to fit it. Just hope nothing else has gone wrong when the take it off as my clutch started to juder aswell :(.

i may be wrong ,but 14 to 18 hours to change a gearbox sounds way out ,i'd say more like 3 hours at a guess ,i can change the clutch on a truck in 6 hours and that's with a power take off installed

Ah well can only go off what i was told (glad i didnt get it done or would have had my eyes out!) Although saying that on my megane it was in teh renault gtarge for 2days wonder what they were doing with it...... Hope you get it sorted for a reasonable fee! not sure what was wrong with mine just said it diffs on its way out.

Its a Vauxhall box. Its what they use in the Astra VXR then Fiat borrowed it as part of the GP/Corsa development deal

Yes it is and from what I understand Fiat replaced the plastic/nylon 6th gear too as it was a known weakness and not up to handling the diesel torque.
