Rain sensor...

Has anyone retro-fitted a rain sensor to their car before?? And if so how easy/hard is it to do?

Re: Rain sensor...

not going to be an easy one need a new windscreen for a start (the sensor is in the screen) before you get to the electrical side of it buy some Rain-X or Aquapel if your too lazy to turn the wipers on

Re: Rain sensor...

Mine came with 2 as standard, they are on my face. They sense rain hitting the screen and send a signal to my brain to send a signal to my hand to turn the wipers on.

I will try to install it this week if I have time. Then I will tell you if it works or not

Re: Rain sensor...

You don't need to buy a new windscreen, just buy the sensor itself and then connect it to the A-Bus(Another kind of communication protocol just for the sensor) on the Body Computer, then, enable the sensor using MultiECUScan and make a Proxy Alignment. Take a look at GP eLearn

I bought only the sensor without buying a new windscreen. Take a look:

Best regards,
Julio.

Re: Rain sensor...

Hola Julio,

I am curious to see how you'll succeed with that. Is the rain sensor just a matter of enabling in MES ? What stack position will be used for 'auto', I guess you'll use the 'intermitent' one, correct ??

Regards, Bernie

Hello Bernie,

yes, the rain sensor can be enabled at Proxy Alignment settings, you have to enable it, and them make proxy aligment. And on eLearn, it says that low speed is auto mode, and the others are for changing the speed. And if the sensor is broken, it will works like at car LOW-ended version (without rain sensor).

If you don't have the sensor, after proxy alignment, on your menu (on car cluster), it will show a new option (rain sensor) that is for setting sensibility of the sensor. On MES you will see that again, on Proxy Alignment, that still is not present. That is due to during alignment, the car check where nodes (modules and so on) are connected, and if it does not detect the sensor at "A-BUS" on the body computer (yes, there is a conection BUS just for rain sensor, from the sensor to body computer directly), it will not finish properly the alignment, and it shows an error while performing alignment, but on cluster will recognize it successfuly.

On eLearn there is not too much info about how it works, but I hope that I can get it work. I just need to add to wires on two connectors on the body computer, one for voltage, and other for A-BUS. GND is connected directly to car chassis.

That is similar like when I enabled the cruise control. First times that I tryed without turning on the switch, and after 3 or 4 months I was like crazy trying to find out what happens with this damn module, and this is the answer. Also, the air intake sensor was damaged

On a Spanish Fiat forum, there is another guy asking the same, and all the people says the same as here (it is impossible...you have to buy a new windscreen...you are a lazy guy...) and I am informing on both sites, here and on the Spanish forum.

If I get the sensor working, I will make a manual. Promised

Best regards,
Julio.

Here it is! Take a look at the attachments. As you can see, the Arduino's wires fit like charm at sensor pins

Best regards,
Julio.

Hi Julio

How did it go? Did you fit the sensor to the car?
I believe you need a silicon gel pad in between windscreen and the sensor

Thanks

Hi BobLeeSwagger,
The sensor is not installed yet.
That is true. You'll need the gel pad. You can found it on eBay for about 14-15 Euros.

Now I have some free time due to holydays, I will try it then.

Regards,
Julio.
