My mate has got a G-TECH performance meter and we did a run to compare my stock GP T-JET sporting with my ex car - a remapped Mk3 Seat Ibiza TDI.

My Punto T-JET dynoed around 139hp, while the Ibiza had around 142hp, but with lots more torque.

Punto has stock 17" alloys with 205/45/17 and Ibiza had stock 15" alloys with 185/55/15 tyres.

Overall I'm pretty impressed with the results, especially as the Ibiza felt much quicker. Must be because of the instant torque that diesel cars produce.

402m (quarter-mile)
Punto T-JET: 16,458s @ 83,55 mph
Ibiza TDI: 16,462s @ 85,08mph

Do any of you have 402 times of your GPs, so we can compare?

i used dynolicious to do mine, this is my best run, i couldnt find any loads long enough, straight, or flat with out any traffic on to get a proper run.

and the hp figures may be out as i put my vehical weight as 1500kg!
but 1/4 mile times and 0-60 are very acurate!

Nice. Looks like you could get similar results if you accelerated the whole 402 meters. I got just slightly better times, but that could be because of the road.

0-100 times looks about the same as mine (in the range of 9 seconds +-).

I'm going to try Nd get a few more times this weekend, the when I get it remapped on Friday I can see what difference it makes! Can't wait.

It has an accelerometer and it integrates acceleration to get current speed.
If it's properly calibrated, it works really good.

More expensive devices, like http://www.performancebox.co.uk/ also use the GPS signal to get maximum accuracy.

And actually this method is more accurate than getting current speed from the vehicle's OBD diagnostic port.

There is no way on earth that can be accurate. Its "guessing" the speed from the G force your creating, measured by a cheap accelerometer in a phone? No way man. Especially seeing as how when it comes to 0-60's milliseconds count.

Actually I was referring to the G-TECH. And it's not "guessing" the speed, the calculations involved in getting current speed out of acceleration are nothing fancy.

I usually minimize the error with a simple method of doing a couple of runs, eliminating the max and min times and averaging remaining measurements.

There are also the factors of driver's reaction time and wheelspin on start which you have keep in mind.

The iPhone one is suposidly as acurate as the g-tech 1, but I never start bragging cus I know if the road has a slight down hill it can knocks seconds of the time and like 50 more bhp! With out knowing the exact drivetrain losses, weight of vehical Inc fuel, passengers, accessories etc it's never going to be acurate! But as for times and speeds, it's all ways exactly what my speedo says! (y)

You are talking about the Abarth GP T-Jet right? it's just the BHP of the Abarth T-Jet is meant to be 155hp

Nope, it's not an Abarth. It's the T-jet sporting 3dr.

The dynolicious app is very accurate but can't replace doing it on a strip. You'd be surprised how good it is though. I measured my Sei with it and compared it to when I had it on the strip. Was certainly in the right ballpark... a few tenths or so (which is easily gained or lost with a crap launch!).

Looks like the Ibiza needs to work on launches. It is accelerating harder - look at the terminal speed.

do tell us more, what is this app called?

it is if its set up right, and you can find a (y) private road with no traffic lights or other cars, thats perfectly flat and straight for at least 1/2 mile!

but if you do, dont rely on the hp figures! i think its impossible to get acurate hp figures, even though the 1/4 mile and 0-60 times are spot on.
