I'm due to collect my T-Jet 120 Punto in about a month. I've not had a car with a turbo before so don't really know how long they last and how much they would cost to repair if damaged etc?

To help prolong the life of the turbo, do not drive off straight after start up, wait about 1 minute to get the oil fully round the turbine bearings and similarly wait about a minute before switching off.

The turbine blades can run 50 - 100, 000 rm and may be spinning long after you switch off if you don't let it idle briefly before switching off.
Some people out there may tell you that is not necessary but if you are planning on keeping the car it's better to be safe than sorry.

I do this every time with my T jet even though I only keep them 2 years.

Thanks for the info I will take on board what you have said! :)

Amazingly some smaller turbos spin at over 120,000 rpm! When I was fixing buses, even the huuuuuuge turbos on them span at like 80,000rpm. I find those speeds staggering if I am honest.

I hold off on putting my foot down until the car's warm - like to be safe! :p
