Haven't posted for a while!

Started to drive off tonight and all of a sudden it beeped and flashed "Gear Unavailable". Pulled over to the side and stopped. Tried reversing - no problem.

Then the beeping/message went away.

Any ideas what happened?

Edit: I should mention I was really low on fuel with the yellow light on, if that has anything to do with it.

was the engine cold? They dont let you select gears under certain revs when until the engine has warmed up

Yep it was cold, though I wasn't rev-ing it.

But this theory doesn't hold because if it did I would have seen it ages ago.

Any other ideas?

Glitch in the matrix?

Nah, Id say it was just a little hiccup - I wouldnt worry unless it happens again. You could call the dealer, you know never know... maybe its a precursor to spontaneous combustion!

Kev?........ You gotta be out of warranty now mate. Guess its time to visit the dealer, bend over and "adopt the position" hahaha

does yours not beep like mad when you try and select 2nd gear at just under 10mph from a cold start?

Actually that could be it - trying to go up gear when the car is too slow. I remember I was just coming out of a corner so definitely wasn't moving very fast.

To be frank I don't remember much as I was a little drunk :)nono:) and really upset after my pet rabbit of 10 years just passed away :)cry:), so I could have been doing something a little unusual.

Hey mate - long time no Sledge :)

I still have about 6 months left on the 3rd year warranty would you believe it!!

up!

I also have Gear Unavailable problem here.
2006 GP 1.4 Dualogic.
I had such in the past (only when trying to do reverse).
During 2008 spring I had a permanent failure, and had to tow my car to the dealer.
I was told they replaced some "gear position sensor".
Everything was fine for a while (half a year, maybe).
Then there were occasional Gear Unavailable alerts when trying reverse after engine start (cold engine?).
Last couple of month I started to get "gear unavailable" when trying to "N" before engine start.
I park my car in "D" (otherwise it beeps on me :).
When I want to go, I turn ignition key once, wait until gearbox indicator turned off, put gerbox to "N", wait until dashboard shows "N", start engine.
So the problem occures when I try to set "N"... it waits 5 seconds or so and then starts beeping "Gear unavailable".
Ok, i turn off ignition wait a bit and start everyting again.
Sometime it works ok on the second run, sometimes it's 3rd or 4th turn.
And today i've experienced very unusual thing!
I started the car in usual manner, and began to drive.
And WHILE DRIVING(!!) (it never happen before), 10-15 seconds after start when the revs come to the moment when it's time to shift to 2nd gear, it's appeared to be on neutral and start beeping "Gear unavailable"..
I stopped, force gear selector to "N", wait couple of seconds, fault gone.
Thank God it happend at 10kph in the yard and not at the junction.

Any thoughts?

Update:

It seems that my local dealers managed to fix the issue (at least i hope so :)
When i got my car back i found the service bulletin under my seat, dated Nov, 5 2009.
In brief, it states that GPs with MTA transmission may have problems with shifting gears after 40000km.
The problem is.... ta-da.... fatigue rupture of clutch shaft near the weld.
Recommendation: Change the shaft :)

Hope this help somebody

Similar problem on my GP was solved only after the Gearbox computer was replaced under warranty. It took a lot of trial and errors and almost two years to solve the problem.

I have exactly the same problem as well, I posted a couple of months ago but I put it in the wrong section of the forum.

I mainly get this error from a cold start, in first not driving hard but when the revs get to the point of changing into 2nd it beeps like mad and gives me the same error. Slow right back down, sometimes to a halt and then off again and its ok.

I'm sceptical of it being a cold engine otherwise why is it ok after stopping and then taking off again. Better get it to the dealer as I only have 5 or 6 weeks left of warranty!

Its also happened on occasion after driving for an hour or two. With only one dealer in Adelaide and them wanting the car for whole day its a pain in the....

Hi all grande punto owners

I am a grande punto 1.4 8v Dual logic gear box owner from Egypt and I am facing a lot problems with my Gear BOx

After 70000 the Dash board screen showed many times (check Gear Box) but because I was getting married at that time I ignored it

Then after a While the Gear box stopped working at all and went to fiat dealer and they changed the Clutch and something called fork in the gear box

The car worked fine for almost (3) month and now I have something new
Sometimes while the gear box is shifting to the (2nd) gear a strange sound appears and in some other times the (2nd) gear doesn't come and I hear a beap and dual login changes the car to Neutral.

Sometimes this behavior doesn’t appear and sometimes is repeated but what i have noticed that in the beging of my journey in the morning it doesn't happen at all and the gear box is fine

After moving with the car for some time it might appear and might not

Can any one help me with my problem knowing that Fiat dealer informed me that I must change the mechanical unit which is to way expensive
