I had a range after filling up to the brim of 504 miles the other day.
I went up to scotland from newcastle, along the a68 which is 60mph with speed cameras like you wouldnt believe and I got a tripA average of 44.7mpg.
I found on the motorway the 1.4 8v is good and is quite nice. TBH I have put 1000miles in a week and some of that was motorway miles... couldnt fault it. I had enough omph to get past some people and it just cruised. In honesty i love my car. I can just imagine what those with turbos must feel like!

Bladdy laverly! Heheh! (y)

i bet with that amount of torque you can just eat up motorway miles :yum:

wish id waited and got a sporting tbh (turbo obviously)

Empathy required for the car tho TBH... I made a mental note never to ask for full boost in either low (1 or 2) gears or high (5 or 6) gears with the revs below 2,000 Rpm. And I still get no clutch slip or judder so it pays off, and yes, surfing the Torque wave is very gratifying! :D

...when im doing about 80-90ish :D and thats when my mpg goes down to about 37ish

You claim that you’re getting an indicated 49.8 mpg at an indicated 70 mph, & an indicated 37-ish mpg at an indicated 85 (+/-5) mph.

I don’t forsee your dealer’s bum leaving his chair in examining that.

Don't want to sound controvesial....but :)

What's the point in having such a powerful remap then having to consciously restrict the way you drive as not to put undue strain on the mechanical components?!...

I have seen the torque curves of various remapped Mjets and the main difference I've noticed with the higher powered map is lower down the rev range where the area below the torque and power curves is significantly different and your manually throttling this??

This isn't sour grapes..or a pop at any tuners, just suprised by your comments..... (y)

Hmmm... Its common sense really, fact is Shroppy the car wasnt made for 195Bhp and +260ft lbs of torque. The standard bits are my concern now I am out of Warranty so I protect my car. It has a very expensive dual mass flywheel and clutch assembly and I aint gonna bust it, not to mention a gearbox with 6 cogs.

Free advice from the boyz at Red Dot (Thanks Peter) Thats why I had the Red Dot map, all sorts of free advice based on experience, fact and knowledge available (y)

Please dont think the car never has fun, just in the appropriate rev range in the appropriate places at the appropriate time. Lots of red faces around Shropshire I tell ya!

I'll let you see what I mean if I spot you about. :D

Fair comments...I respect my cars with or without modifications too....

I live in near Welly so I'm sure we must cross paths occasionally.... Would be interested to see how the mapping differences relate to real world performance. I know Squirrel, who used to post on here, was well chuffed when he "upgraded" his map from Angel to Red Dot...

Me, I'm a stindgy arse so will stick with what i've got! (y)

Lol it would be a dull world if we all made the same choices mate. I know Welly well (?) :p At least you will know my car now next time I'm in front of ya! (and know not to mess) (y)

the derv was the best gp i owned but the one have now i love to bits just not the mpg lol,
i used to get about 650 to a tank of derv and now i get about 350-400 miles to a tank now :(

ive just done a very quick calculation:

GP tank size = 45litres which = 9.9 gallons

650miles / 9.9 gallons = 65.6mpg

This would be if you filled up to the brim, and then ran the car untill it stopped.

When i let my needle go untill it is level and showing nothing in, i fill it up to the brim and i usually put in about 38 litres, which = 8.36 gallons.

650miles / 8.36 gallons = 77.6mpg

How the hell did you get that? even in the 1.3 m-jet your going to struggle. Unless you did a constant 56mph everywhere.

thats crazy... i always thought more speed (in same gear and not labouring) = more fuel. was that on instant consumption or total ?

not at all 70mph down hill in 5th gear will use less petrol than 70mph on a stright, it is how hard the engine works not how fast it turns, i car revving at 6000rpm in neutral will use less petrol than a car at 4000rpm doing 75mph

(for all you nit pickers, the figures are to get the point across not to be accurate)

yeah makes sense i guess... you can see it in the instant mpg if you want... like goin up a hill in 4th is better than in 5th as you will be pushing the pedal to the floor nearly in 5th but in 4th you will be at higher rpm and less throttle is needed.

Worth remembering recent experiments have proven that the most economical way to drive a car is to use the accelator pedal as an On/Off switch... Fully depress it and release altogether when accelerating and deccelerating - which pretty much contradicts all perevious advice.

i thought about this very thing myself once wen I was very bored on the way back on the mway... using the instant mpg.

got any links?

The other day I got 1000kms (621 miles) to a tank of diesel in my 1.3 multijet. :)

The low fuel light lit up at 869kms and then I got 4 audible low fuel warnings..
