my 06 GPS 130bhp needs front and rear brake disks and pads after 38k miles.

I phoned around all Fiat dealers in South Wales and they quoted approx £680, which I find rather expensive.

Is it worth going for aftermarket disks and pads? If so, can anyone suggest a brand?

Mind you, the car is over two years old, hence it is under dealer's warranty now (3rd year). If I fit aftermarket disks and pads, will the 3rd year warranty be invalidated?

Cheers, G

Is it really hilly round by you or plenty fast roads....?

34,500 on my car and my pads are less than half worn and the discs have just the tiniest lip.

Anyhow, discs and pads are wear items so not covered by warranty unless they crack or some other unforseen non-wear related failure occurs. For aftermarket try GSR /Red Dot discs and pads, a search on this forum will help you.

Pads and discs are a serviceable item and as such cant invalidate your warranty unless they caused a problemm with a caliper etc which is highly unlikely and more to do with the tech that fits them than a product of original fitment quality.

Personally I would go for tarox 40 groove discs, and pads. I have found them to be superb in past cars and I will be changing mine on the stilo when worn out.

I would suggest getting them looked at by another garage.... I'm up to 60,000 miles now, and haven't needed any brakes yet.....

note: there are front pads on ebay for £27....... (mine are nearly gone, and dealer quoted £100 just for the pads, they did however say the rears looked new, and I didn't need front discs, which is why I'd suggest you get a second opinion..... they have wear indicators... if its not flashing the light on your dash, they can't be that low....._

If they indeed need changing, then do them yourself (with a friends help if needed). They are one of the easiest things to do on a car and one of the most satisfying when you work out how much garages charge you for the privelage.

Your Brave beleving in that,

the PWI is only on one pad not them all so if you have a lazy caliper the others might be past the backing plate before the light comes on, regular inspection is a much better/Safer option.....

try www.shop4parts.co.uk

should be able to pick pads and disc's up much cheaper...... personally i would get an independant garage to fit them if you cant yourself as the labour will be much cheaper too (y)

Very nice link, many thanks! A close friend of mine is a mechanic, he got an excellent price for Delphi disks and pads, £50+VAT for two disks, £25+VAT for 4 pads, problem was that when we tried to fit them today we were given the wrong disks! My mate is going back to the motorfactors tomorrow to get the right parts, guess they will be more expensive but still more than 50% cheaper than using Fiat's parts and labour.

If they turn out to be considerably more expensive than what Shop4parts are charging, I will order via the internet through them.

Once again, thanks for your help.:slayer:
