Does anybody know if the valves and pistons interfere on the 1.4 8V engine in the event of Cam Belt Failure?

my 1.4 16v dynamic sport threw its belt when the variator went.
it had only done about 9k less than 6 months old
it had to be rebuilt.
valves impacted the pistons.

fiat rebuilt it. took 3 months for them to evently get it running right,
its been ok since ...
should be covered by 3 year warrenty if services were carried out

The 16v and 8v are different, head-wise. The 16v, even in 1.2 form, was always an interference engine (valve/piston contact if belt breaks) whereas the 1.2 8v wasn't.

I can't seem to find any technical info at the minute to confirm either way for the 1.4 8v.

Well yes the 1.4 8V is a longer stroke than the 1.2 so better not assume to be safe then? I e-mailed FIAT on their help line to try to confirm, but in spite of auto message to say 'receiving attention' no actual response yet. Is their e-mail query service just a bit of window dressing?

fiat will sometimes contribute after 3 years for cambelt break IF service history correct and not exceeded recomended time for change
