General Abarth GP Anticipation

General Abarth GP Anticipation

I'm gonna get me a white one with the full stripe kit, and maybe the leather and other extras as long as a model with those options are gonna in transit to the UK for launch. I got my GPS that way, and will do the same with the GPA.

Trust me, the GPA will hit this year, the UK hot hatch market is the biggest throughout Europe, Fiat will not let the competition gain too far a footing in the UK market - they'll deft want it launched before the all new 2008 Fiesta.

P.S. have you seen Ford are copying Abarth and their esseesse kit with their 'Mountune' versions of the Fiesta and Focus ST?

However, the SS kit will simply bring the GPA into contention with a standard Fiesta ST, so with their 'Mountune' kit, they will again be the "hotter" hatch.

Well no, the standard Abarth is 155hp, the standard ST is 150hp both just under 14k. The Mountune ST is 185hp, the Esseesse kit is 180hp, both adding at least 2k to the base price.

My bad, i was assuming with the standard ST coming with a 2.0L engine (which again, i assumed was turbo charged) the standard ST was 180.....sorry

Abarth need to stop fuking around and just put a 2.0 Twin Turbo in there at around 270bhp would need to be 4wd though

Too right, why are they arsing about with 1.4?

Your joking right, please tell me you mean the Focus ST.

I can, and have beaten many Fiesta ST's... they're not quick at all compared to our 170 M-jets.

Tom

I've nailed standard STs but my friends full miltek ST gives me a good run!

The new ST is going to be more than 150bhp, this is the abarth competitor, we're not talking about the current ST

Right... there is always talk, don't listen to Autoexpress et al, they know nothing, they always talk the talk, they gets your average joe excited with a photoshop mockup and a rumor that they heard from a friend of a friend who works on the production line. They said the GPA was gonna be a 2.0 turbo with 4wd and 230hp - look how that turned out!

For me it's not just about the speed, I like the exclusivity of it plus you get a wicked turbo gauge on the multifunction display :)

i know what you mean about the exclusivity of it, its so you can say that you have an Abarth lol.

When talking about the red version I'm not far behind you on that.

i wasn't too keen on the red but in that picture it looks the dogs.

:yeahthat: i'd buy one of them just so i could possible **** on scoobys. lol

disagree with that, auto express are one of the worlds leading car mags and i don't think they'd print something on the basis of word of mouth. Also auto express didn't say that the GPA was goin to be a 2.0 turbo with 230bhp, they said that the S2000 will be a 2.0 turbo with 247bhp, but this will be for the Fiat rally team.

Trust me they did say there was gonna be a GP with 230hp and 4wd, I rememeber calling Mangoletsi and trying to put a deposit down on it on the word of the Autoexpress article.

Autoexpress are the 'redtop' of the automobile press world, they just take all the information they've gleamed from many sources and come up with an story, I find it odd that they don't keep an archive of the 'news' they've reported past a year. They knew that the Fiat group was bringing out a 1.8 MPI engine, and that they would later be turbo charging it. They knew the Abarth brand was coming, so they put 2+2 together and came up with 6.

The latest lies about the next generation Fiesta proves this, I quote from autoexpress

autoexpress said:
The line-up (of ecoboost engines) will appear across the model range, and includes a 2.0-litre engine producing 275bhp. But the ST is likely to get a smaller 1.6-litre unit, making around 180-190bhp.

The 275hp 2.0 engine they speak of is from a Ford Explorer 'concept' that wont hit the road before 2010 apparently, so you can presume the '1.6 litre' unit it just as far off. I'll eat my hat if the next gen ST has got 180hp+ out the gate.

If you can read The Sun in the morning and believe all the rubbish about so called stars etc. doing him, her or the other, then you can believe the stuff that autoexpress comes up with. Until you see the car with the engine planted under the bonnet then it's just rumour.

I'm in the same boat as you Courts, got my GP not long after yours - black Sporting. Think the Abarth looks great and think i'll be holding out for one - white with the red side stripes.

Speaking to one of the sales guys at the dealership in Telford he told me that at the recent dealer conference they announced Abarth would be setting up a standalone dealership in Birmingham. No dates given though and not sure they were all that happy about the idea..

woohoo another telfordite (y), lol, I don't think TJ Vickers will become an Abarth dealer, its not big enough and doesn't really have th facilities to cater for the brand.
