Technical Power Steering Problem

early vauxhalls had motor in engine bay at bottom but later ones are similiar in design to fiats. From what I understand the GP system is vauxhall design & I think its the same as one vauxhall model(still cant remember which one)...i'll try & find out more about this(y)

(you not drinking tonight?)
Yep, drinking well underway. Finishing off what is left of the New Year bevvy.

Just got the car back after they fitted the new column, feels a lot better now and much more precise. They also fixed the crankshaft oil leak at the same time so very happy.

I wonder how much that would have cost if the car had been out of warranty, anyone care to estimate?

<<The guy said that sometimes if the car is left for a long period the low charge in the battery might cause the warning light to come on. If it comes with vibrations then its the motor that needs replacing>>

When I had to go to hospital for a few days recently,I rigged a time-clock to charge the battery up for 15 minutes a day. I`ts better to be safe and keep the battery topped up and avoid all sorts of problems with radio code or even ECU. The only problem I had was a jammed handbrake-and I thought I`d left it off. Doh!

Well not meaning to dig up and old thread, but hey, I used the Search feature :D.

My sis' 06 GP came up with "Have Power Steering Checked, Refer to Handbook" the other day but she says there were no warning lights associated with it. She didn't need to turn it off and on as everything worked fine. The car is used for a decent run everyday so I don't think voltage is an issue.

Being booked in soon I think, have to wait for the outcome.

The last generation Punto used Delphi`s E-steer system. The GP uses a system designed and manufactured by TRW Automotive. They are two different designs/products from two different manufacturers, the only connection is that each one does the same thing.

Fiat have chosen not use E-steer in the GP, two reasons spring to my mind. The e-steer system has not proved to be reliable in the MK2 Punto and given that GM has an involvement with Delphi, Fiat might not be prepared to line GMs pockets following that little "Tiff" a few years ago.

According to the info in one of those links I just posted they dont, but this is the internet so I wouldnt bet my mortgage on it :D
