Hi,
I have been looking at the GP Sporting T-Jet petrol and the M-Jet diesel, both in exotica red. Cant for the life of me make up my mind which one to buy though. The only thing that is swinging the diesel at the moment is the 6 speed gearbox... Kind of assuming that the diesel will hold its value a bit better come trade in time. Anyway, you people have any views...? i guess though its all a matter of personal preference. By the way, FiAT dealers here (northern ireland) are virtually impossible to deal with. Am going to buy the car from
Perrys and drive it back. prices quoted are £10,000 for the m jet and £9,500 for the t jet. every fiat dealer i tried here would at most knock a couple of hundred off list. thanks.

hi mate. the multijet will be loads cheaper to run too which is also worth thinking about. what group insurance is the t jet? the diesel is only group 6 which imo is another plus. and the tax is £140. no idea about the tax on the petrol turbo though. the diesel will be just as quick, i think auto express quoted the t jet punto with a 0-60 time of 8.9 and the diesels is 9.5... also, the diesel will probably remap a little higher too, and the mpg will also get better over an extra urban run.

HTH :)

also, as you said, the diesel will sell better... BUT you pay a little more in the first place, in your case, £500 more.

i have always had petrol cars, and my last one was a 2litre turbo (225bhp) and i can't recommend the diesel GP enough. i think it is absolutely stunning! :) it's one of the best looking small cars out there, if not the best!

No wonder they won't budge on those prices, the M-jet is £10,300 at the very least new from the Uk, thats with over £2000 off list price. The T-jet will be about £500 less. Least you get the 3 year warrenty in Ireland.
personally I'd go for the Mjet, it should hold its value, 6 speed and the engine is proven.

Ben

Dealer lucky to make £3-450 on a GP so cant really discount, the money is made up on the finance deal.

Larger dealerships can buy bulk or sell pre-registered thus offer better deals/discounts.

is the t jet only 5 speed then? that seems a bit funny seeing as they used to put a 6 speed box in the 1.2's!!! dont know if they still do.

Thanks for the views / info everyone:). Think i'll go with the M Jet, at least the engine is tried and tested and should hold on to its value a bit more. Will order one up tomorrow. Yeah, the T-Jet is a 5 speed was poking around one earlier, was the first thing i noticed.

i'm really suprised by that...

and like you say, the m jet is tried and tested... plus you get all the extra benefits of the cheaper insurance (probably) and cheaper running costs.

have you any idea on what insurance group the t jet is?

cheers mate, david.

i checked on the Association of British Insurers website, and the T-Jet is listed as Group 6, same as M Jet.

well anyway im sure its based around the 1.4 8v, so its probably the same 5 speed

Do you mean 1.4 16v as the T-Jet is a turbo 1.4 16v unit not 8v or am I mistaken???!!?? It seems a little strange to me since the 1.4 16v Panda 100HP and original GP 1.4 Sporting are all 6-speed gear boxes... ODD!

As for which, the Diesel is by far the better all rounder yet some may call it a little boring while other people want a high reving little unit so I guess its upto which you feel more excited about when driving (y)

Cheers

i have driven the t-jet 120bhp as it was new and the engine not properly run in it wasnt as fast a gp 130 standard but it was more fun to drive a lot lighter at the front more chuckable.ounce run in there would be nowt in it.also in time i am sure it could be remapped to at least 150 bhp and it being lighter it would give a remapped m-jet a good run for the money.......:)

i agree, i think they're very well matched. :D but the t-jet WILL cost you more in the long run. :)

yeah i forgot mpg the m-jet no matter how hard you drive it will stay in the high 30s mpg softly driven it can reach 50mpg "not remapped of course"better mpg over all when remapped i think motorway driving is the only area the m-jet will really win hands down no competition in my opinion(y)
