Right, a guy at my work has a mk2 punto and is complaining about the clutch slipping, however, he says it doesn't slip all the time, if it slips on the way to work, it won't slip in the way home or vice versa. He also mentioned that its stinking of oil (which I've yet to smell to determine gear or engine oil). My thoughts are that the clutch is f**ked and requires replacing, also would be worth replacing rear crank seal, and checking gearbox/replacing gearbox if required.

Or is it worth repairing?

Could be engine oil dripping on the clutch overnight, hence the slipping in the morning and burnt off for him going home at night... best idea is to whip the box off and see whats happening

My gut feeling on those symptoms is also either crank seal or gearbox input shaft seal, clutch plates getting contaminated by oil.

Hydraulic clutch on a punto, so i guess it could also be slave cylinder related, either leakage contaminating or sticking intermittently.

Basically, as Stuarty says, its a box off diagnosis regardless.

Yeah, don't think that will be happening as he will be scrapping it in a few days, nevermind. I thought the oil seals aswell though.

Whats the rest of the car like? Could be a cheap car to someone thats willing to put in a weekends work

Damaged n/s front corner (Superficial due to handbrake failure), no handbrake, engine burning a hell of an oil, slipping clutch, and god know's what else, there WILL be more. I was thinking about it, but if it does need a gearbox, its seriously not worth it. If it was a 3dr then I would have bought it.

To be fair.... thats not too bad... bit for all the value... scrap it!!
