Yesterday LewisP noticed my headlights were cracked. The N/S one quite badly the O/S not so badly but still cracked. I'm guessing the stone which flew up from behind a lorry earlier in the week did the N/S one :(

As you can see from the picture it doesn't even look like it's sitting flush any more. It's getting MOT'd a week tomorrow so will this be a fail and do I need to get it fixed beforehand?

looking at it, i don't think it'd fail on that. The crack is on the side so isn't going to alter the beam pattern at all. the light itself shouldn't have moved to knock alignment out either, so i don't think there's a problem.

I reckon you'll get an advisory for it though.

Thanks and I hope you're both right as I haven't really got time to look into picking up new lights this week. However I may run the car up to the garage sometime in the next couple of days to see what they say and if they confirm it'll be a fail I'll need to find the time.

How easy are they get hold of and replace if I need to? I may also consider replacing the bulbs too as they're the crap yellow ones

Try Overton garage in the off chance for the units, but avoid Halfords bulbs, inc. the ultra / super brilliance etc. - they make little difference!

replacing the lights is a pain on the grande, remember when me and daz did the lights on his it's really a bumper off job. It can be done by loosening and bending the bumper a bit, but that involves a lot of scraped knuckles and swearing  , probably just as quick removing the whole bumper. tbh i wouldn't attract the garages attention to it :p

as for bulbs, i'd recommend osram nightbreakers. Phillips x-treme vision plus (i think that's the name of them) are meant to be just as good, but i know the nightbreakers are very good having used them myself :)

Just to give you a heads up im not on much at the moment BUT i have my old Grande lights still sitting in the garage should still be in good nick apart from 1 i remember has a broken mount at the bottom but no cracked lense

Cheers Abyss, I may buy them from you at the same time we pick up the sei. How much of a problem will the broken mount be? And remember I'm not particularly mechanically literate so simple language explaining things would be an idea

no problem it has 3 mounts 2 at side and the HARD to fit bottom one which is under the bumper area but enough plastic left on it to drill a small hole and put steel cable tie on the end and jobs done :) ill have a look next im up anyway and get a photo and make sure im remembering the one which broke correctly anyway lol :D

worst comes to the worst
put the headlight in the oven for 15 minutes and seperate the glass and swap the glass around :)

60 notes + vat from Overton, they are new lights though and it is indeed a full bumper off job, Shaz is needing two new headlights after finding out most of the mounts on the lights are snapped, also think the spring clip is broken on one of them ;)

The garage pointed out the headlights were cracked and advised I should keep an eye on it. However it's not on the official paper work so is it an official advisory or them being their usual thorough selves? I should add one of the reasons I keep using them is they do a complete check on the car without doing a kwik fit on me. They also confirmed it didn't alter the beam pattern :)

Anyway, serviced and MOT'd for another year so I'm happy

If its not on the advisory then its not an advisory... I prefer garages like that where they actually talk to you and explain stuff rather than taking money and you are still non the wiser.. happy motoring for another 12months :)

yeah, the garage is pretty good although a bit inconvenient to get to if you don't like exercise or don't have two cars in your family. However they provide an excellent service and will pick up and drop off your car if you're really stuck
abyss113 how much for your headlights? Might get them picked up at the same time as the sei if the price is right :)

Sold :)

Stuarty should be looking at FiaSco today and once we know how we're going to proceed someone will be in touch about picking up the sei and headlights
