The car I've recently bought had a few bad points. One of the ones being the bonnet release catch is broken - the cable still works but isn't attached to the release clip. Was just wondering if anyone knew how easy this is to fix? It might just be a case of reattaching it haha but I'll be getting the car in 2 hours so will post pics.

Another problem, with the bonnet - is the catch is a lil(alot) rusted. It works opening the boot, but the spring that travels along it to pop the hook back into place has a small cover on it that is meant to move back into place when opened, but it does not and you need to do it with a screwdriver - is it a case of getting a whole new catch? or has anyone seen this happen before? It'll be the exact same on the mk2b as it is on the punto, and other models as well I'd say...

As I said, I'll get pics up in a few hours - was just wondering if anyone had any blind ideas.

Cheers :) :afro:

if it's anything like the mk1 punto (i assume it wouldnbt be too different), the cable just has a metal ball on the end of it that hooks through the handles back, might need a new handle or cable depending on what broke to disconect the 2, either that or someone replaced the cable and couldnt figure out how to connect them, should be plenty handles in the scrappys etc though

Yeah the catch is appearing to be the least of my worries - I've found one on ebay in good nick for pretty cheap. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/FIAT-PUNT..._CarParts_SM&hash=item19cdbe6a4d#ht_616wt_952.

I'll have a look in the car when it gets here, the cable is definetly fine, as if you pull on it hard enough the bonnet opens. It'll probably just be the release handle has snapped or something. Cheers though :)

that's not the part you need if the cable operates it, thats the bit that latches the bonnet shut, the cable connects to that and pops the bonnet

either teh cables been replaced and its not fitted right or the cable may have snapped where it goes to the handle in the car or the handle itself may have snapped where the cable goes through it

That's the part that's rusted - with the spring not releasing properly. I'll get pics up soon :)

ah right, i think i know exactly whats happened then, either.....

the rusty catch has been heavy to operate which has made the plastic release latch give way

or

the rusty catch has been heavy to opperate causing the cable to snap, someone replaced thecable and not hooked it into the intertor latch for some reason.

first ones most likely
