I have a hole in my intercooler pipe, not affecting the output yet, the fiat one costs 170 notes. Hopefullly it will last the month but would rather get it seen to!

Any ideas what I'm actually needing coz I've google searched and am none the wiser :(

How do you know you've got a hole in it?...there will be two pipes, a hot side and a cold side. You could buy yourself some time by using self amalgamating tape to affect a repair.

Had a look at replacing the 147 intercooler pipes for some silicone types from Samco, think the price for replacements was £75 each.

if it's not affecting output, you dont have a hole in it. trust me on this, the mondeo has a hole in the pipe from inttercooler to inlet and it was almost undriveable

if you have a split starting to show/something rubbing the pipe wearing it down, protect the affected area with an exhaust bandadge or similar to stop it wearing any further

While we're on the subject of intercooler pipes. I've noticed on the 147 that when you rev the engine the top pipe expands (blows up) only slightly, but noticable. Does anyone know if this is normal?...I would have thought this is a waste of energy.

yeah it's pretty normal on some cars to do that, its never normally all that noticeable though, i'd just give them a squeeze all round and see if theres a different feel to them, if that ones a bit softer then the inner cords might have split....or maybe they just used a different material depending on how close it is to other parts, heat etc, it's very model specific

i still havent replaced the split hose on mine, the bodge has held brilliantly over 3k miles so far....then again i think i over-engineered it slightly, it went from weighing 700g to nearly 3kg repaired

another wee tip, if you can get something like fix-it bonding putty or even silicone bathroom sealant on it, put it on the worn bit to strengthen it then put a bandage or similar over it and cable tie the lot down, the affected area will never be an issue again :)

if not, the bandage should still do the trick, or at very least severely reduce any further wear on it :)
