Hi,

I am new to this forum. I might be joining you in owning a Bravo soon and I am looking for some advice.

I am looking at a '97 HGT today with 56k on the clock.

I have looked through the forum and made a note that the Cam Belt needs to have been changed but I am looking for any other advice on major service jobs that might need doing?

It has a FSH so I am hoping that most things have been replaced or checked.

I am also worried that the asking price is too high at £2300? What do you guys think?

Thanks

Strikes me as way too high.

£1200-£1500 absolute tops I would have said.

Make sure it has 1 red key and at least 1 blue.

Current Mileage: 120,500 miles

yeah as ins said, about £1300-1400 tops, the cambelt and red key are the big ones to look out for, apart from that just the usual wear and tear items, regular oil changes etc. and general condition, there are plenty of HGT's around so dont dettle for anything less than excellent condition

Those are the sort of prices that Parkers are quoting.

Does anyone know when the Water Pump and Clutch chould be replaced on the HGT? I could use that to bring the price down as I am told it is an engine out job!?!

Clutch - depends how its driven really no set time limit

water pump should be replaced when cambelt is replaced (as you have to remove the cambelt to change the pump) iirc.

you are quite right young lozz. common practice is that they get changed with the belts, and if he has had the belts done then check it says so on the invoice (because not all change them) otherwise you might need to do the cambelt again just to be sure it isnt going to fail and cause te belts to be done again.

to be honest if its mint then i would push to £1800, but that has to be mint!! if its modified this effects the price but only if YOU like the mods.

Thanks for your advice. Lets hope this guy is going to be flexible on the price!!!

The HGT sounds like a lot of fun!!

Sorry to butt in, but have a look about halfway down Page 6 on this forum.
Cambelt already changed and car is in A1 condition, and I need to sell it PDQ....

I'll see how tonight goes as Oxford is a bit further. Thanks for the offer and links though.

1997 - 2006. Nine years - i'd expect the cambelt to have been done twice in that time.
If the guy says "it's only done 56K" then tell him that low mileage is not really a positive thing on such an old car. Lots of starts and short journeys makes for high wear. Time is as big a killer of belts as mileage.

Get one thats been cared for (forum) and don't pay more than what everyone else suggested.

Good luck finding one.

It's not worth anything more than £1200 and that's pushing it.

For that you want 3 keys, and the following to have been replaced, clutch, waterpump, discs and pads all round, along with a lot of history and receipts.

Alarms and c/l are fickle as is rear wash wiper, interior trim marks badly and drivers seat soon begins to "sag". Sunroof nearly always leaks, as does footwells from either s/r or blocked drains at front of scuttle panel.

p yr old car - get it well inspected and make sure the exhaust etc etc is OK!

If in ANY doubt - walk away. Remmember, it's from Turin, not Swindon!
