Ok, 1.4 1997.

Having problems when car is hot trying to start it. Sometimes it trys and then eventually fires into action after a couple of turns but other times it refuses to start unless it is cooled down - about 30 - 45mins.

Is there such a thing as a warm start sensor, and if there is, is it worth me checking this and also where abouts is it?

crank sensor, not to sure where it is but my old 1.4 had this before the tensioner went.

hmmm...a couple of posts in the last few days about what seems the exact same problem. (Including mine)

Mine starts (when cold) and runs fine, but if i try and start it when warm/hot its starts, then immediatly cuts out.

I found that its temp related. If i leave the car to cool down to the last mark on the gauge before cold, it starts fine.

My fan is not staying on when i turn the ignition off, but runs when the engine does.

I think i have a knackered relay or temp sensor.

Hmmm, lots of answers which is good.

Daz, mine doesn't cut out once its started, just has a real struggle to start if it does start when its hot.

The fan is kind of wierd, sometimes when i've parked the car up, the fan will carry on, but most times it doesn't presumably because it cooled down just before i parked up.

I had a overheating problem recently which is sorted with a new thermostat and i checked the fan was working ok as well, but now the car is running really sluggish and this other problem of hot starting.

Tom, where do i find the engine temp sender please ?

(sorry for my lack of mechanical knowledge, but the bloody haynes manual isn't the easiest either)

I'll get some new plugs as well while i am at it

Would have been helpful to know its sluggish :)

Does it get worse as it warms up?

Tom,

Yes it does seem to get sluggish as it warms up.... this obviously means something, please give me some good news :)

any clues where i can get hold of a replacement, or is this a visit to Mr Fiat?

Mr Fiat, only a few quid. Make sure its the one for the ECU and not the dash.
