Brake Pedal/Brake Light Sensitivity

When im in traffic i find myself braking harder than i would do normally because my brake lights do not come on unless i press the brake pedal down to a certain point, its not really bad and on the open road it works fine, but when im just in traffic 10-15 mph, it is less effective.

Is there anything i can do to make my lights come on sooner when i press the brake pedal?

If that makes any sense :)

stick your head in the footwell and you should be able to see the sensor that activates the lights. You should be able to adjust it somehow.

Jon

Will the sensor be on the brake pedal itself does anyone know?

KeithR

The brake sensor is near the brake pedal. To adjust it you need to unscrew it to go down, or screw it in to go up. (or the other way around - will see when U do it)
Would give U a pic, but photobucket doesent work.

So from what you are saying, if i screw it up or out (so its actually closer to the pedal and sticks out more) then i should b ok? And thanks for the tilting seat guide, having a go at a fix this weekend.

Ok, so the further away from the pedal the sensor is, the sooner my brake lights will come on, yes?

KeithR

Yep, Tom is right as usual ;)
The sensor is mounted on the car, not the brake pedal.
So U have to move it away of the pedal, cos. it turns the lights on when the pin in the switch drops down.
