Alarm/Remote Locking Problem

One of my 1998 1.8HLX's keys failed with the remote locking button breaking. My local Fiat garage had the car to get a new key cut. I rang to arrange to collect the car and was told that problems had started with the alarm where it kept setting off for no reason so they kept it for a technician to have a look. After 5 days and what seemed a lot of messing about (mechanics off sick etc) I was advised that the remote locking had also stopped working but the alarm no longer went off. They said that the remote sensor had probably failed and needed replacing. I was quoted a cost of £300+ parts. I needed to use the car so asked them not to carry on. The remote locking worked 100% before with the other key. Now neither the unbroken original key or the new key work the remote locking, although both start the car ok. The dash led flashes constantly with the car running or not. Wish I'd just left it as is now!!
Any ideas whats gone wrong, or what someones done wrong?

DONT WORK FOR THE CO-OP THEY DONT PAY PERIOD!

they have set the alram

they have set the alarm to be on but with no sensors active, this makes crims looking in think theirs an alarm on but there aint as the sensors aren't on.

sounds like they've miffed it, working fine before they touched it(part from that key)

Re: they have set the alram

go back and tell them to fix it or u will get trading standards involved. you shouldnt take a car to get it fixed and it come back worse than it started!

Update

Spoke to Fiat who said they couldnt program the key to the car so suspected a fault on the car not the key. I have tried myself and it will not program into the car. With the doors unlocked and the alarm deactivated by the working key. I followed the manuals intructions (press & hold button in roof lamp cluster to get green led flashing and press button on key). Rather than the led go steady on, it goes out as soon as you press the key. The key will not operate the remote locking or alarm so I assume that the codes were not stored. Anyone got any idea whats causing this??

Re: Update

Im I right when I say that U are talking about a standard fiat alarm? If so go to a META Security service, cos. fiat uses there alarm. They will tell U more. They did in my case when my alarm went. But im in EU, and dont know how stuff goes in UK
