Re: skiing

If you've never been before, I'd recommend France, cos its nearest & you'll not find better skiing anywhere, but its just not necessarily the cheapest.

I took a half dozen of my mates last year who hadn't been before. I always take em high up for guaranteed snow, as in recent years the snow line has carried on retreating (150m up the mountainside now on average).

The 3 Valleys (inc.Val thorens & Les Menuire)or the Espace Killy (inc.Val Di'sere - beautiful resort) cover a huge area, with guarantees of snow (there's always the glaciers which have snow all year round!). It took a lot to convince some of my mates they'd enjoy it, so I didn't want to take any chances. Learning on thin or poor/icy snow will kill all the pleasure.

The advantage to these areas besides the assurance of good snow and good weather (you can often head higher up to ski above the cloud if it's a particularly cloudy day)is the large number of slopes for beginners, and the likelyhood they'll have a good ski school offering lessons morning or afternoon to suit you, and it can be good fun to have lessons in a group too!

Re: skiing

Oh, and the main reason for choosing any of those resorts I mentioned, is the nightlife.
There are plenty of others too like Les Arc (a favorite with the boarders) that have good apres-ski, but you'll find the vast majority don't have any nightclubs.

Re: skiing

ive been to france (la plange) over christmas two years ago and the snow wasnt too good towards the end of the week, my brother has been to soll and said it was excellent however the snow was "iffy" the apre ski was good and the people friendly

does anyone here go to the snowdome tamworth?

Re: skiing

I go skiing every season and have done since i was 2, we always go to france, Mum and dad own an apartment there, (so we dont pay for accomodation). i am a bit bias when it comes to it but i would reccomend france, and depending on how much you have to spend you can get in some places whats called a galexey pass, so you ski mostly at one resort and then spend a few days traveling to different ones, (1-2 Hours) obviously you need to drive out or hire a car when you get there, this makes it to be a great holiday, you experience different terrain every day, and gives you travel expeicnce to maybe base your holiday at a different resort the next year.

Canada is good as well, although it can be a bit cold..ok very cold, but if you go with a good group of people the cold is nothing. Canada is well controlled unlike europe whilst in the queues you get your skis trampled and pushed and shoved about in canada the liftys keep it well under controll and they have the single lanes for people skiing on there own, so if you dont mind sitting with stranges you can get loads more skiing in if you all pretend to be single.

There you go, my essay on skiing

www.puysaintvincent.com

thats where i ski, and it has the galexy pass i mentioned, it near by to some big resorts like, Serre Chevaliare (can' spell it) Mont Genevre (Half in Ialy) La grave.
