Can anyone help me please!

my car had been running a little rough recently and sorta juddering sometimes after gear changes and there was a noticeable lack of power, infact on a dual carrigeway if i was in 5th gear with the foot to the floor the car would start to loose speed!

oh, by the way its a 1.2 80sx T plate with approx 70,000 miles on the clock!

So i was driving along today and the car felt fine and i thought it may only have been driving like a dog because i had switched from using optimax to using normal fuel!

Anyways, car started to sound rather loud when slowing down and it sounded as if i maybe had a hole somewhere on the manifold or around that area, it was also making a knocking noise at this point, so i switched it off and tried to start again and it made a grinding noise and then cut out, tried again and it wasn't turning at all, just making a whining noise?

Any ideas? sorry 4 the big post but i'm slightly peeved!

Little update, so i've talked to a mechanic and he seems to think that the timing belt has worn teeth or come of and that would explain the whinning noise, however he thinks the crunching noise would probably be the valves bending??

I'm guessing this will be in the £100's to £1000's to fix from what i've read on the forum!

Is it possible to have the car written off by my insurers? and would they pay out in this circumstance?

depends if your engine block n pistons are shagged too

Cambelt failure is usually more immediate, the engine stops DEAD.

poor man my dads bout a vectra he had it a few months and cam belts snapped bending everything in the engine well my dad being stupid instead of taking it to vauxhall he took to a local garage (where you take a car in for one thing it comes out fixed but other things broken) well three weeks later he got car back he took it out to leeds and guess what it happened again i could not stop laughing for hours as we all told him that they were crap sorry i know its got nothing to do with your car but had to tell someone.
