I had my clutch changed about 3 months ago, 1.4sx bravo. Ever since if i start the car and try to select reverse it grinds. But if i select 1st and then select reverse there's no issue, also if i start the car with the clutch depressed and the let the clutch up and select reverse it selects without an issue. is this just because this car is a fiat or is there logic behind this.

New clutch will be dragging ever so slightly, just ignore it.

At least you know they have put a Bravo/a one in mate. That's one of the finer points of Bravo driving.

If it makes you feel any better all the hire cars I have had have been the same.

Mine HLX does it to mate. Usually whens theres an audience or im in a rush lol!! I usually find it goes in after putting it in second. Probably doesnt help reverse has no synchromesh, dont select reverse when travelling even at 1mph!

I'd put it down to it being a Fiat. Come to think of it, it definately is, 'cos my mums HGT does it as well!!

technique

my technique is....

you have to be at a full stop...

then put it into reverse but stop before you meet resistance (before you have to pull hard and make it grind)

then lift the clutch so it begins to bite...whilst pulling gently back on the gear stick (but not enough to force it to grind) then it slips into place and reverses happyly.

Tis annoying and potencially embarassing but you get used to it

mechanics love yanking it in and gringing it, these are the fiat ones as well!!!

Re: technique

Nononononononononononnononono NO!

You'll just make it worse. Simply put it in and then out of first or second then dip the clutch and it goes straight in without grinding.

i've tried the gear technique

i've tried the gear technique

it works best for my car by sleecting second gear then going to reverse

if i use first i still have to use my .....slip it in technique

PS, why is slipping it in bad, i was quite good at "slipping it in"

Re: i've tried the gear technique

i lift the clutch to turn the gear box a little too when putting it into reverse if i have too.
