My 97 Bravo has a trebbile habit

When its warm and idling it likes to every now and then drop down to three cylinders. The garage can see no reason for it to do this.

Is this just Fiat's idea of economy engine

Engine size? Does it do it for 1 or 2 revolutions or does it do it for several seconds?

Re: Re: Rough Idle

Its a 1.4 and it happens for just a moment just a little blip

:( I thought "Rough Idle" was going to be a play on Pop Idle.
in which case i would nominate Jade "im not a minger" Goody from Big Brother. Yes you 'kin are!!!!

;)

Re: Re: Re: Rough Idle

Tried new spark plugs? You have to expect the odd missed beat on these engines due to their design. My 1.6 misses a beat every 20-30 seconds at idle.

Re: Re: Re: Re: Rough Idle

Cant be the spark plugs because I only replaced them a few months ago with fancy four prongs

This is the least of my problems now because my oil spray bar has clogged after only 15000 miles. When the first one clogged the camshaft siezed mucha money. And guess what happen this time yeah siezed camshaft again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ouch I had the same problem in January - spray bar blocked for some time, follower broke, (apparently) trapped the camshaft and cambelt slipped, valves hit pistons. A top end overhaul & £1100 lighter but it then ran on all four cyl. Garage showed me the cam, one lobe was black, the rest shiny.
Now 5000 ml later the rough idling is back just like before - I'm trying to kid myself it's an HT lead. The consumption is still crap.

Re: Re: Rough Idle

Had the same prob with my 1.4 as well. Again the spray bar blocked and caused the camshaft to wear only on the right hand side (seems to be a prob place on mine as its always getting blocked there nomater how often i change the oil and poke a pin through the wee holes on it), this caused me to have 2 buy a new cam, several valves and followers and t/belt while i was at it. 2 top it all off i lost compression in the engine while this happened and had to replace a piston as well.

I dont the work along with a mate whos a mechanic and it only set me back roughly 100 notes for the parts. after i done the work i took it to fiat to have the ecu reset and they adv me that the valve timing may be off a very small amount as the car seems to have am almost misfire to it even though theres new plugs and leads.

Perhaps some1 can shed some light on the prob 4 me?
