AMP

Are there any connections on the back of the standard head unit for an amp? going to get it fitted soon with better speakers all-round and a sub in the boot.

Re: AMP

You'll have real problems trying to fit an amplifer to a standard head unit.
Theres no specific wiring adapters. If you want to do it this way get a proper audio shop to do it for you.

However a better option would be to buy an new aftermarket headunit with at least one RCA output.
What type of amp are you buying, i.e. how many channels and what are you going to run from it?

Then run a power cable from the battery (installing a fuse as near to the battery as possible), run an earth cable from the amp to an earthing point in the boot or under the rear seats. Then run a a cable from the remote output at the back of the headunit to the amp so that when you turn the headunit on the amp knows to switch on. Finally run your RCA cable from the output on the head unit to the RCA inputs on the Amp.
Connect your speaker and you'll have sound.
Buy an amplifier wiring kit from somewhere like Halfords or a car audio shop and it'll include some basic wiring diagrams for you to follow.

Thanks for the hepl mate but had a set up in my punto of an amp and 6x9's in the boot which I fitted my self didn't want to put an aftermarket head unit in but I do have one spare.
Going to get turners audio at sunderland to fit it all this time it is also going to cost me 300+. This is for a SUB upgraded front speakers 13cm and fitting.

Indeed you can put an amp on a head unit with no RCA outputs, infact if you go to the Sony site they point you to www.soundontop.co.uk who specialise in audio add-ons for original equipment (including amps)

But,
The way it is done is using either:
a) an amplifier with speaker level inputs which will convert the speaker outputs from the stereo to RCA (line level output) then amp it up.
or
b) using a speaker-to-RCA convertor between the head unit and the amp to get the outputs to the correct level.

Either way this is not ideal as the line output is being amplified by the stereo and then reduced back down by the amp or convertor before being amped up again.

This serves to introduce possible points of interference as the signal travelling from the head unit to the amp or convertor is at full volume so to speak so minor interferance will not be noticed. However, when the signal is reduced the interferance will be included in this and then be amped up as well making it a LOT more obvious.

If I was going down this route I would prefer the convertor option and keep it as close to the stereo as possible.

Thinking of doing it my self just don't know if I can be arsed. I've made my mind up aswell I'm going for a 12" sub insted of a 10" sub.

Where do you live (might take you up on that offer)?

There arent any standard connectors on the back of the basic Fiat headunit. I changed the standard tape deck for a Blaupunkt CD head unit (only 85 quid) and went from there. Bought a JBL amp and 12" MTX Sub, with my own custom box. Even tho the the BP headunit didnt have standard Phono inputs in the back, it is still possible to use wiring clips to attach it to the relevant wires. The wiring was easy enough, taking the wires down the passenger side and up thru and round the back of the glove compartment. The most difficult thing was getting the positive lead from the amp thru into the engine bay. After a few minutes of fiddling with a screwdriver, the wire was thru. I guess it is possible to do the same with the standard head unit, but i personally would recommend getting a dash adapter and getting a better CD /Tape deck first as the standard one is pants ;p
