Code light occasionally remains lit

Hi all. Have to say again thanks for a great forum!

My problem is trivial - very occassionally when I start the car the code key light remains lit. The light goes out when I restart the engine and there seems to be no pattern to when it appears. I've had the car for just under a month and, in the 2500 miles I've covered, it has only happened two or three times!

My car is a 2000 Brava 1.6 Auto. ALthough the problem seems trivial, the car is my baby and I'm worried!!!!!

Does the light sticking mean anything at all??? Thanks folks.

It means it didn't recognize it

It means it didn't recognize the code from the key. It happened to me once, don't know why but i removed the key, waited a bit and tried again, worked and no problems ever since.

Did the car still start and drive?

The reason I ask is that unfortunately my Bravo 1.4SX (1997) got nicked from outside my house. I thought the immobiliser was supposed to be good on these cars?

Anyway, got car back - but no engine, doors, panels, gearbox, wheels, lights - basically a shell (doh!)

So just ordered today a 1.8 HLX with the alarm as well as immobiliser.

Does the car still drive with the code light lit (surely not - otherwise what is the use of an immobiliser?)
