I have a 2015 Hymer Exsis i588 and I am contemplating buying an underside hanging kit on Ebay (Item 172200931210) for carrying a spare wheel. I am well aware of the weight situation and that this will take a big chunk out of the permitted 500 kilo payload. I just don't like the idea of waking up in the wild somewhere in Europe only to find I have an unrepairable flat tyre !! especially if the wheel rim has been kinked as that limits the possibility of using the 'Get me home aerosol gunge'. Nb: As a part solution I already carry a spare tyre (only).

This is all research and speculation at the moment which has prompted the following questions:

1./ Does anyone know the weight of a 16" Ducato steel wheel and tyre.
2./ Does anyone know of a 16" alloy wheel that would fit, and the weight saving difference over steel.
3./ Does anyone know which Fiat Ducato chassis my Hymer is built on.
4./ Does anyone know if the spare wheel underside hanging kit would fit?
5./ In a situation when the aerosol might work, is it better to jack up/suspend the wheel before using?
6/ Is there a Jack hidden somewhere on my Hymer, if so where is it ?
Note: I do not mean an immigrant called 'Jack' !

PERFORMANCE NOTE: I have just had my 2.3 Multijet engine re-mapped WOW!!

The only one I can help you with is 6.....assuming Hymer keep the standard Fiat seats (I realise this is leading to a question 7 :) ) then a wheel changing kit in a plastic 'wallet' (including the towing eye) is designed to clip in place under the passenger seat.

Even if the thread is old:

1: 32kg wheel+rim (weighed), hanging kit I estimate another 5kg
2: no significant weight difference
5: the aerosol is put in with a compressor, the gunk needs to spread out by moving the wheel, i.e. Driving, to cover the puncture. It should not require jacking up - if the hole is big enough that you need it on the bottom in order for the gunk to cover it first, then it's most likely too big for the stuff to work anyway.

I have just purchased one of these underhanging kits from ebay
item no 123435145666 for my swift 686 ducato 250 based motohome.

However I cannot find any holes that match in the cross members to fit the device.
Does it need plates to be fitted to the crossmember chassis in order to bolt
onto it?
The actual cross members are box section so cannot see how olt/nut would fit.

Have I bought the wrong item?
Thanks

The carrier is for a Ducato panel van chassis. I believe your swift is a coachbuilt motorhome built on a Ducato cab to which a spaceframe or girder type chassis has been bolted and the motorhome body mounted onto. So yes, I suspect the kit is incorrect for your vehicle.

You can fit the spare wheel carrier if you make up your own mount. There is a detailed thread on MHF from a guy who fitted it to his Alko heavy chassis.

If I can find it I’ll attach a link.

Richard.

PS. If anyone one wants an unused Ducato spare wheel assembly I have one for sale.

Hi rfc7, our hymer/ducato is much older than yours 05, to access our spare wheel from the cradle is done from inside the vehicle removable bung.

Have you thought it might be similar and you will need to drill through your floor, ours is about an inch diameter hole, just a thought?

I have been informed by the supllier that I have bought a replacement carrier
and I need to send it back and purchase the kit of parts that include plates etc.

item no. 122537205094 on ebay.

I will let you know how I get on.

However the steel girder looks the proper job in the referenced if I had that expertise I would have a go at that unfortunately I have not!!!

Cheers:)

whilst still awaiting new part and plates I have found this on swift talk site site.

It look like it fits:)
sorry i cannot post links yet but if you go to the swift talk site and search for
spare wheel carrier you will get photo's of the fitting under les aubrey.

Thanks les!!!
;)

You also need to make sure it is for the correct pcd (5x118 or 5x130), since the centerpiece that holds the wheel is different and won't fit otherwise
