Does anybody know where you can tap into the D+ Alternator connection to trigger a relay for a split charging system, on an X2/50 Ducato please?

(I gather the converters have a socket fitted inside the bottom of the door post by the drivers seat. But this 'converters socket' is fitted as an optional extra by Fiat when ordering the van new, and is not present on the standard van.)

Thanks for the reply but I tried that and have also spoken to a very knowlegable friend of a friend who is a mechanic at a large FIAT motorhome dealer. But he just refers me to a converters socket inside the door pillar which my commercial van does not have. Presumably all the X2/50's he has seen are from professional converters who ordered their base vehicles with this optional extra 'convertors socket' fitted.

The X2/50 has a 160amp alternator, I have heard of those 30 amp relays blowing whe the leisure battery gets low, and also increasing the resistance slowing down the charge to the leisure battery. I have a 100amp voltage sensing relay. But they still seem to be more expensive and less efficient than a normal 100 amp relay triggered by the D+ wire from the alternator?

Why not just use a voltage sensing relay as they have been doing in towbar installation workshops for at least the last 10 years. It senses the voltage rise when the alternator is running and has an adjustment screw to enable fine tuning. It is used for the caravan fridge and battey charge whilst under tow. The relay control contact can be connected into any circuit which would sense the voltage rise but a favorite is a feed from the battery via a fuse.
