hi all, help required. My 1998 fiat ducato van keys suddenly stopped working. The AA think the key code is corrupted. I have tried the red key and blue key sequence but it wont work. The engine is turning but it wont start and the key code stay on. HELP REQUIRED PLEASE.......

Hi mate,

Could be a problem with the code box or its aerial that scans the key. Its a fairly common problem. The connections on the box and between the box and the aerial con often be the cause of the problem so its worth having a prod and push first.

As you say, the engine will not start with the CODE light on, so to save your battery, if the code light doesnt go out, theres no point in trying to start it.

hiya, thanks, i have checked both the aerial and burrel and they are both fine. When you say its a common problem, what is the solution?? if the aerial and code box have been thoroughly checked by an auto diagnostic technician and he found no faults. This van is a 1999 DUCATO with very little or non existant computer functions and the technician says the technology on it does not need any plug-in at a fiat service garage. help????

well, the technician came round today and told me after an extensive, and a £60.00 pound charge, that the problem lies with the small immobiliser box attached to the fuel pump. Well, do you think i should go ahead with his advise to get it removed by a specialist garage that does this kind of work called Wade diesels in chestunt?? Am unsure, but i have nowhere to turn to!!!. Any advice would help???

great, how far are you from stevenage or can you recommend, many thanks

Hi Benscott,

This is an old thread, and the OP has not visited the site since July 2008. I think that it is extremely unlikely that he will reply to your query.

From what I have read, the standard cure is to remove the immobiliser from the injection pump, as suggested earlier in the thread. I am assuming that your vehicle is either a 2.8D, or a 2.8idTD, if this is the case then perhaps you should consider yourself lucky, in that you have the removal option which is relatively inexpensive.

For more information see this thread.
