Brake pad upgrade advice

Hi, my van is a 2017 Fiat Doblo XL. It is a conversion camper van.

The brake power is bit of weak when doing emergency brake sometime, so want to have an upgrade. The current pad is the stock FIAT pad from new car, with 284mm disk and stock single pot caliper. Wondering any improvement if I upgrade to this Brembo pad?

Brembo P23137, WVA No: 23708-23709

Also attached the brake pad photos on my van

Thanks!

Re: Brake pad upgrade advice

I found a big difference when I changed all the discs to MTEC drilled and ferodo pads. Iíve had there drilled and groved but found them to be noisy. So I put just drilled on and they were great.

MTEC have a January sale on at the moment. Might just get a full set for the Panda 💯hp as it only about £140 delivered for the full set and pads.

Re: Brake pad upgrade advice

Brembo, Ferodo, Mintex, are all good, but unlikely to bring much difference to braking power. EU regulations dictate that replacements must meet OE standards, so little room for improvement.

Whatever the conversion on your van, it should still fall within the original weight limits of the base vehicle, so the brakes should be adequate. The drilled discs may bring a slight gain.

As an aside, and for everyone really, not specifically aimed at the OP, any time any of us have to do an emergency stop, we should afterwards try to analyse the situation.
Could I have seen that coming?
If not, if visibility was poor, (buildings, hedges, etc.) should I have approached a little slower, or further out form the danger source?
What clues were there, in behaviour or road layout, etc., that might have helped me anticipate the situation.
However, no matter how good you get at anticipation, they are all out to get you and are finding new ways to surprise you. So never get complacent. Hope that helps.

Re: Brake pad upgrade advice

I will stick to gripper pad at the moment, not mechanical.... since I don't have much to spend on upgrade to 2pot/big disc something at this moment

Sure, I'm always be the best to drive careful and respect the speed limit on road. However there are several time when exiting the dual carriage way that going down the hill, and there is a stopline right there , I got experience can't stop in expected before the line and shoot 1/3 ahead.

Re: Brake pad upgrade advice

Donít get EBC Yellow or Red pads as they take far to long to warm up and grip. Especially the Yellow pads.

Start the slowing down much earlier. Very difficult, but keep working on it.
This has the benefit of slowing following traffic too, reducing the risk of a rear shunt. Aim to be able to stop a car length early, then roll towards the line looking to go if poss. Makes a smoother approach, and more likely to keep moving when gaps are there.

Re: Brake pad upgrade advice

Finally I bought this one from Amazon

And take it to my garage and hopefully get a fitting, but my garage just told me it doesn't match the shape of my brake.

Here are the photo from my brake, any idea what is the manufacture of it (Bosch, ATE, etc?) and any idea about the OEM number of the pad? I can confirm the disk size is 284mm

I told my VIN number to the CS in https://www.autodoc.co.uk and the CS say they didn't find a record (strange)

and if I search Doblo 1.6 120ps here are many different pad

Thank you in advance.

Re: Brake pad upgrade advice

When I changed pads on my Doblo cargo van Ian sure there was a choice of ,2 different types depending on what callipers were fitted, I don't have the weak brake problem though exactly the opposite I keep locking the wheels and skid if so break to late.

I am confused now..

the backing plate of the FIAT pads looks brand new.. if that set of pads fit..
Cross reference that part number..

But the manufacturer is normally cast into the caliper housing.
Bendix or Bosch.. as examples.

Generally the silhouette : profile of the pads backing plate is quite different:individual..

That is how I got correct pads 1st attempt for my panda
